The liquid causing the most damage to your liver may not actually be booze, according to a new study. It’s soda.
In the new paper (a collaboration between multiple Massachusetts universities), entitled “Sugar-Sweetened Beverage, Diet Soda, and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Over 6 Years: The Framingham Heart Study,” researchers looked at the average sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) or diet soda consumption of participants from the long-running Framingham Heart Study, which began in 1948. The new research examined 1,636 descendants of the original study, both offspring and third generation.
As the health site Eat This Not That! explains, researchers then weighed these soda self-reports against the incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a condition that affects one in four Americans. As the Mayo Clinic notes, “Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an umbrella term for a range of liver conditions affecting people who drink little to no alcohol. As the name implies, the main characteristic of NAFLD is too much fat stored in liver cells.” Fatigue and pain are common symptoms, but advanced scarring (cirrhosis) and liver failure are also possibilities.

You eat a lot of refined sugar items and drinks, this will occur as well.
You can get cirhossis of the liver from large amounts of refined sugar intake.

Ill drink things sweetened with stevia but it ****** me off when these companies feel the need to add erythritol or any other artificial sweetner.
Nope. It’s the texture that I loathe. Raw, steamed, fried, baked, NOPE. Butter on squash is lipstick on a pig, and a waste of food.
As I said, you can have my share. I do love Indian food, though.
Exactly! People sucking down CARBS because the government says it is healthy then get fat and start drinking diet soda. The diet soda is as much an EFFECT of their diet as the fatty liver. Simple CARBS are the joint cause of both!

I gave up soda in January and haven’t regretted it once. Feeling so much healthier!
Bacon. Pigs eat veggies. They are just reconstituted vegetable matter & water. So.....bourbon soaked Bacon with cane sugar crust

That is called a diet cocktail
Phosphoric acid is used to maintain the carbonation. Phosphate replaces calcium in your bones - not good. Carbonation it self is not bad. The sweetening agent, sugar.artificial and the phosphoric acid are what you should be concerned with.

Oh, what I really mean is sometimes I eat Bourbon- soaked reconstituted vegetable matter with sugar cane crust. Mmmmm!!

In an office Christmas party about 4 years ago, I was given a 12 pack of Squirt soda (A grapefruit based soda and the only one I like)
I have 6 left.

Agree, I can’t stand sugar soda, it makes my mouth icky. I drink sugar free soda when I do drink soda.
Been in process of rehabitation for years.
No sugar sweetened soda for me. (no alcohol as well...)
Only diet colas... and the occcassional fruit juice and coffee.
Do you think artificial sweeteners are better?
