Paul McCartney revealed the “eye yoga” he’s practiced for decades, saying it's the reason he still didn’t need glasses at the age of 78.
The former Beatle said he discovered the exercises in India, where a yogi explained the reasoning to him.
“He explained that your eyes are muscles whereas your ears aren’t, so you can’t exercise your ears,” McCartney noted on a recent episode of Table Manners With Jessie Ware. “But your eyes, you can.” He went on to explain how this works: “So, head still, and then you look up as far as you can – one, two, three – go back to the middle, then down – one, two, three – then back to the middle. You do three lots of that, then go to the left and the right. Now you’ve got a cross, up and down and sideways; now you do the diagonals.”
McCartney explained that "it’s pretty good stuff. It makes sense, though, doesn’t it? It makes sense if they are muscles. I don’t know if it means that that’s why I don’t need glasses when I’m reading a newspaper. It makes sense, you know? It’s a good idea.”
The Beatles traveled to India in 1968, believing that transcendental meditation might be helpful for their lifestyles and ambitions. “We'd been into drugs," McCartney said later. "The next step is you've got to try and find a meaning then.” He said the experience was “very much like a summer camp.”

That’s just plain goofy. Shut up and sing.
McCartney must be the coolest guy who ever lived.
There is no pretentiousness in him. When you listen to him you get exactly what he thinks, no BS, no acting.
It is so refreshing just to watch an interview with him.
If I want advice on important stuff, I’ll ask Ringo.
Maybe it was the pot smoking, it works for glaucoma.
How is that goofy? He’s explaining an exercise technique he likes. Don’t do it if you don’t want to.
But you are extremely rude to tell someone like Paul McCartney to ‘shut up and sing’ for that.
He did not talk politics, he did not try to tell you what YOU should think.
You millennials and newbies are creating a toxic environment here.
But you know that won’t come easy.
Vegetarianism is more likely.
Except that he sang Michelle to a guy pretending to be a woman at the White House . . .
“...your eyes are muscles whereas your ears aren’t, so you can’t exercise your ears...”
My uncle taught me how to wiggle my ears many years ago. I still do it every once in a while. It’s a great party trick and will embarrass your grandkids when you do it.
I was told, when I was about 20, that eventually, the muscles that focus my eyes eyes lenses would weaken to the extent that I will need glasses. Behold, at 50, I’m almost convinced.
He's the one with the hot wife, right?
Wait..what. I thought Chuck Norris was the coolest guy that ever lived. Oh well, live and learn!
Can’t he just let it be?
It sounds like he is exercising the muscles that align and turn the eyes, not the eyes themselves. I don’t see how it would help with actual vision (nearsighted, farsighted, astigmatism, etc.), but it might help in keeping one’s eyes aligned. I have had surgery on my eye muscles so I should probably try his exercises.
Elon? Is that you?
He is the TOUGHEST guy who ever lived.
Superman has Chuck Norris pajamas... Chuck Norris can divide by Zero.
There are several good eye exercises that are easy and very effective. Do a search on them. The trick is to do them daily.
I’m probably one of the oldest FReepers here, and altho I have reading glasses, I have no problem reading or typing here. Same with driving or watching TV glasses. Have them, but don’t need or use them.
