Pot: The Gateway Crime
Look Around | 11/06/2020 | blueunicorn6

Posted on 11/06/2020 8:12:06 AM PST by blueunicorn6

Marijuana has been called a “Gateway” drug. The thinking is that once a person experiences the effects of pot, they will have lost their reluctance to try stronger drugs such as cocaine, meth and heroin.

“I smoked pot and lived through it. I kind of liked it. Maybe the stronger drugs won’t hurt me. Maybe they will be like pot, only better. They probably won’t kill me. Plus, it’s kind of exciting.”

We sit after this election wondering how so many of our fellow citizens feel the need to cheat to achieve a political goal. Cheating is against the rules. Cheating is a crime. How can they so easily do it?

It is because they have become used to criminal behavior. They smoked pot and broke the law, but they didn’t die. Making pot illegal seemed useless. It was a crime, they thought, with no personal consequences, save those useless laws.

They smoked pot and committed a crime, but the world didn’t end. They felt that they benefited from committing this crime. They could ignore problems for a while.

If using pot was a crime that could be ignored, then what other crimes were useless?

They were no longer honest with themselves. They lied to themselves. The absolute worst kind of lying.

They could lie to themselves about other crimes.

Voter fraud? Who did that really hurt? Not them. It was kind of exciting. Who goes to jail for voter fraud? Pffffft.

As these Democrats continue to lie to themselves and others, committing other crimes became easier.

Stealing? Who did that really hurt? Sure, it’s against the law, but so is pot. Who cares? The people I stole from deserved to be victims. They didn’t know how hard it is for me. They can easily replace what I stole.

The lies to themselves grew bigger.

This is not a dissertation. This is Free Republic.

I suspect that my thoughts will be attacked with mass posting.

People who benefit from selling pot will post numerous frivolous items to drive this post from the front page.

So be it.

Pot is a gateway crime.

It is being used against our society.

I think the stuff is a bad idea.
I also think the federal government really has no business making a weed illegal.

What I really want is for the government to get out of the charity business. No welfare. No food stamps. No assisted housing. You’re on your own. If you can build a solid life for yourself while using drugs, that’s fine. No problem at all. But if everything falls apart for you, don’t come crying to me and demand that I fund some “programs” for you.

You were right about that.

What you say about pot is true of ANY minor wrong-doing, softening one's attitude towards other wrong-doings.

Speeding?

Pre-marital sex?

Leaving the office early (these days, kicking back for a nap early)?

Any of a million "Little White Lies"?

Eating the last cookie and blaming it on your sibling?

In other words, you pick on "pot" as a Gateway Crime" but it's one of a million such.

It’s gonna be a tough time for those who ignore reality.

Reality won’t ignore them.

Why do so many conservative people ignore pot?

Because they will keep their offspring away from it.

That means their offspring will get the better jobs and mates.

Pot smokers?

The hell with them. Let them rot. Let them sell French fries.

Some people make their living off pot.

Some people make a mighty fine living off pot.

They want to make more money off pot.

If those suckers want to give them money for a few minutes of forgetting the world, so be it. They’ll take the money. Those suckers deserve what they get.

The worst kind of lie is the lie you tell yourself and then come to believe.

"I think the stuff is a bad idea."

Sure, you do.

"I also think the federal government really has no business making a weed illegal."

Yeah, right. That's your real concern. Uh-huh.

"What I really want is for the government to get out of the charity business. No welfare. No food stamps. No assisted housing. You’re on your own. Except that you know that the government doesn't beg us for the money. The increasingly socialist government takes the money from the American people by threat of force. The government continues more towards socialism, because marijuana turns minds towards dishonesty and towards the left.

Oh, please. History did not begin in 1937, when Harry Anslinger decreed that smoking weed made white women have sex with black jazz musicians.

Go away and watch 'Reefer Madness' for the thousandth time.

Numerous studies have concluded that marijuana is one of the major causes of permanent psychosis and schizophrenia.

“major causes of permanent psychosis and schizophrenia”

Does conjecture over 2% of those diagnosed constitute “major”?

Perhaps.

I would recommend that anyone who is on the cusp of being crazy not smoke weed. Or drink whiskey. Or participate in any occult activity.

What pathetic nonsense you write.

Pot is a gateway crime.

Refute this statement or go back to watching cartoons.

You don’t know wtf you’re talking about. I’ve been smoking pot for 40+ years, I’m not a criminal and it has not been a gateway drug for me. Also, I much prefer to be around people smoking pot than people whom are drinking alcohol.
