EVEN with his thick, trademark eyebrows hidden by a pair of shades there is no mistaking the superstar smile of Sir Sean Connery.
But as he celebrates his 90th birthday today the man who James Bond fans say has never been bettered as 007 will be celebrating away from the glare of the cameras.
Not seen out in public for three years Connery has become a virtual recluse, determined to have nothing to do with showbusiness or the fictional spy who made him both rich and famous.
He rarely leaves a gated community in the Bahamas where he lives in splendid retirement with his second wife Micheline Roquebrune.
Once able to command eight figure fees for a movie role, the actor has given strict instructions to his agent to turn down all offers.
Instead he prefers to spend his days playing golf, which seems to have given him the unrefined joy that he never truly found making films.

“Outland”
aka “High Noon” in space.
The Wind and The Lion as Raisuli the magnificent
Mrs. Pedecaris, you are a lot of trouble!
Raisuli: [concerning the two out of four men he has recently beheaded] A barbarous man would’ve killed them all.
“Different country, different customs! We mustn’t be prudish!”
The look he gives Michael Caine, after getting his own line thrown back at him, is priceless.
That’s it!! The Just Cause, which we have but haven’t watched it in ages kinda made me think that was it. But you’re right.......Finding Forrester.......can you remind me why he was hiding? Did he lose a wife or something? I don’t have that movie.......I appreciate it......;)
In US politics, he would still be the junior Senator. :)
“...Christopher Plummer...”
Another great old actor. I haven’t seen that flick in years, need to go dig out my VHS copy of it (yeah... I still have them...).
Max Von Sydow was a favorite too, as well as Sir Laurence Olivier.
I miss the old brigade of actors. Truly.
Got rid of the last of my VHS tapes earlier this year when I moved :-)
I have dozens of home videos of the kids, dogs, old house, etc., on VHS. I keep meaning to convert them - I picked up a VHS to DVR converter a while back, but have not had the time to sit down and do it.
Also have 8mm reel films of my family from the 50s and 60s to get converted.
I think that can get expensive, but I would love to see my family again...
We have a bunch of 8mm too, but my dad’s old projector still works. I watched a bunch of them with my family earlier this summer.
Definitely a man’s man AND a woman’s man.
Those bikini bottoms look like Granny Panties now. :-P
Kind of dated.
Memories. They were the best of times.
Indeed, I spent many happy teen age moments in theaters watching Sean Connery.
Candice Bergen at her most beautiful, and Brian Keith in a tour de force as Teddy Roosevelt. I loved that movie.
In his movie Medicine Man there is a scene where he and female lead are under the canopy of trees flying along from area to area- with a background of beautiful music that i listen to over and over. Cant here it enough!
