Students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have been attending parties in the city and surrounding area as part of a disturbing contest to see who can catch the virus first, a city council member told ABC News on Wednesday. Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students have been organizing "COVID parties" as a game to intentionally infect each other with the contagion that has killed more than 127,000 people in the United States. She said she recently learned of the behavior and informed the city council of the parties occurring in the city.

Mild covid infection for people in good health is a GOOD thing. I think I acquired it during cruise ending on Feb 29th this year. Had a funny dry cough for 10-12 days after cruise was over. May be I am immune now.
This is a solid concept. Worked for chicken pox.
The smarter students go to Auburn. That’s just a fact (I live in the state, but have no dog in that hunt). That said, students living on their own for the first time are all idiots.
Its probably not a bad idea. Creating herd immunity for themselves. No government official in our snowflake age could ever suggest this, but for healthy young people, the rate of death from Covid-19 is about the same as getting struck by lightening.
Hmmm. Good for them. Thin the herd and herd immunity all in one.
Safer than bugchasers attending AIDs parties.
The fact that you think CV parties are for idiots says less about them and more about you and your lack of knowledge of herd immunity And lack of appreciation for freedom.
Worked with our children re measles about 50 years ago.
My wife and neighbors with young children held measle parties/sleep overs and later cold parties/sleep overs.
The two problems are, first, these people make be asymptomatic or only have mild symptoms, and then will spread them to compromised friends and family; and, two, the jury is still out on whether antibodies confer immunity.
I agree that this will probably be a net benefit in the long run. But I doubt that the Tide Pod Generation has such an altruistic goal in mind.
College students are, collectively, the stupidest people on earth..............
I think I did also, have not been sick in 5 years, late Dec got a really tough cold that felt more flu like for about a week with another week or so of cough only.
If you are going for herd immunity why not have a party at the same time....coeds and all....
Everybody’s bored in Tuscaloosa.
Here is the CDC deaths by Covid - this thing is done.

It’s risky behavior: that much is clear. If such actions were isolated specifically to a single group of students, that might be one thing, but if there’s anyone believing that all of these students would immediately self-isolate for the next 2 weeks after contact, then they should think again. They could easily endanger others... so yes: while I believe in herd immunity (I remember chicken-pox parties), I don’t believe that having idiot college kids try to self-administer that is a good idea.
Does Auburn have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter yet?
Theyre not out rioting and tumbling statues? Chopping down racist Druid oaks? Burning down antebellum housing for soldiers? What is this world coming to?
