I'm sure (I hope) to get a range of responses to this thread.
I've owned hand guns and long guns of all types. Handling them is not an issue.
Unfortunately the ones I've had were lost in a boating accident.
I'm looking to replace the ones I had with three or four that compliment each other.
The thing is, at home defense distances, max 15 yards, 00 buck spreads about 1.5 . And, a shot with birdshot in the proper location, in the triangle from the nipples to the neck, will likely be a one-shot stop, but Id rather put 9 .38 caliber balls in the same spot.
Great gun. I have one still, and it looks like a flamethrower if you pull the trigger at twilight. I cannot imagine even a large mob of thugs sticking around to see when it finally goes "click".
“..Actually, they aim for the knees or the groin area (if you know what I mean) and use CCI Stingers or MiniMags....”
Not a bad strategy, especially when the perps are wearing body armor. They should add the adam’s apple area to that list as well.
A lot of people blow off the .22LR as if it were a toy. Sure, it has no immediate stopping power compared to the big calibers, but rest assured, it’s gonna bounce around in there and the perp will eventually go down for the count.
Dont forget the ID 10 T test. Your post fails. Boating accidents are for cats MEOW. Mine are dry, oiled and ready in a seconds notice.
I hate the boating BS. Its the trophy of Im a kitty.
Ruger P85 MK-II 9MM- Triple Safety, Ambidextrous Safety & Magazine Release, Lightweight for size & capacity, Very Comfortable Grip & Feel, High Capacity Mags 10 - 35 Rounds, easy "Pick up" Ammo is common World Wide. Very comfortable in Hand, (Personally if I could have only 1 Pistol this would be it.)
.44 Magnum Revolver- Make sure it's comfortable to grip one handed and as long a barrel as You feel OK with because even 'light" Loads pack serious power.
.44 Caliber Winchester Lever Action Rifle (or similar) between this and the .44 Magnum Revolver both using the same Ammo is a 2-Fer. And is just fine to "reach out and touch something if needed."
Remington or Mossberg 12 Gauge in 3.5" Chamber. You can use any 12 GA Ammo from 2.75 up to 3.5" Rounds in a SG Chambered in 3.5" but NOT Reverse or Rounds will JAM !!!
If You are wanting a Sniper Type Rifle ask others here because I'm not that type of Shooter.
Savage makes some decent .308 tactical rifles. Any decent deer rifle would do what you want, and seem less menacing, if that matters.
Locally, the shelves are full of .380 and .40 S&W. 9 and ,45 are about the only things in short supply. Hunting ammo looked good, too.
“Looking for something with 500M accuracy. Just can’t get into the 5.52. Maybe .308.”
Tika makes a very nice bolt-action .308. Very accurate. With the right optics, 500 yards is quite reasonable.
For closer ranges, there are many AK knockoffs.
Closer yet, Mossberg autoloading shotguns.
And, if things are going really badly, a 1911 in .45 caliber.
Lastly, the Kabar.
They don’t want to kill them, just incapacitate them and spend the rest of their miserable lives thinking about their injuries; one hundred yards in a city environment is pretty good shooting range.
The IDF is not trying to kill the target in these scenarios.

“Just a thought. I actually prefer a .45 caliber, but they cost too much to buy for me.”
Rock Island 45 caliber 1911s run about 400-450 around my location.
Yea, but his rifle wasn’t a grab-it-from-the-rack ordinary rifle like the common 91/30.
“M/28-30 model, serial number 60974, was also used by Simo Häyhä, a well-known Finnish sniper. M28/30 was used as Civil Guards competition rifle before World War II, as was the case with Simo Häyhä’s personal rifle. Therefore, rifles were built very well, with highest grade barrels available and carefully matched headspace.”
I’ll presume you’re serious.
Not that you can buy any of these:
1) Good 12 ga pump shotgun, brand of your choice
2) 357 magnum or 38 special revolver, brand of your choice
(I like Ruger, myself)
3) 357 magnum lever action rifle, Henry or Marlin, pref JM
4) Good 308 hunting rifle with a good scope, no cheapies
(or AR10)
5) Good AR15/AK, your choice.
-or-
If you like, you could swap out 9mm and a good semi-auto of your choice (Glock) and Ruger PC9 carbine for the 357 stuff.
And remember, if you ever actually have to use them, they will most likely be confiscated as ‘evidence’ by the authorities, so no heirlooms or collector’s items, please!
The particulars really are up to you.
My free advice would be to keep things as basic and ubiquitous as possible.
Get a reasonable amount of range time, and save your empties.
Get a basic reloading press and get set up to load your own.
Use eye and ear protection at the range, and don’t store your guns in a case.
Cop, Rex Applegate recommend one to the sternum of the biggest loudmouth in a mob. Repeat until ya run out of loudmouths. Apparently it doesnt take too many.
I guess the IDF made the political decision not to create martyrs.
Yeah, if I were buying a first and only handgun right now, it would be a police trade-in USP 40. A gun designed around the cartridge, cheap for its quality, and plenty of ammo available.
Cut 12gauge shells. Wax and #4 buck. Works great.. reloading press gets a workout too.
