I'm sure (I hope) to get a range of responses to this thread.
I've owned hand guns and long guns of all types. Handling them is not an issue.
Unfortunately the ones I've had were lost in a boating accident.
I'm looking to replace the ones I had with three or four that compliment each other.
Get a rifle, a pistol and a shotgun.
Consider the cost and availability of ammo for each before deciding what to buy.
My two cents. My ideal LD platform would be the Fix by Q in 308. My ACC 300 Blackout is quite versatile either sub or sonic. Pistol wise I am keen on my 9mm Shadow Industries pistol but I like H&K .45 tactical. I would also pair that up with my H&K UMP .45 shorty.
Everyone has their own prefered caliber, some like 9mm owing to the low cost. My life is a high cost thing, big bore only. That said the .45 colt cowboy style revolvers are relatively inexpensive, easy to clean, very reliable. Shotguns right now are sold out. Even used guns are evaporating off the rack. I will buy, not selling oe “losing” any.
Glock 18 or Desert Eagle .50 for sidearm.
M4A1 for rifle. AK47 if you can’t find / afford one.
AWP or Steyer Scout for long-range rifle.
Also need a good knife just in case.
Don’t forget the ammo.
The price of Mosins, while still affordable, have gone way, way up in the last few years. And they’re running out of stock with retailers who sell them as C&R pieces. A mid-grade, arsenal-refurb Mosin whill run you about $359 or so, if you can find one, but that’s generally just the rifle. I jumped into the market for one back when they were plentiful and dirt cheap - I got a hand select ‘31 Tula with a hex barrel, the cleaning kit, oil/solvent can, sling, bayonet, and ammo pouches for $99, plus shipping and transfer fee. And matching serials at that. But the cost for the rifle with all the bells and whistles now is such that you really should just invest in a decent, white bread AR, unless you’re really jonesing for a Russkie bolt action. I keep mine for the actual curio value. I don’t plan on picking off someone at 1,000 yards, and it’s about useless for home defense (unless you use it as a club). I figure it’ll come in handy if a rabid bear wanders into my yard.
basic trio?
1. bolt action 30 cal. you pick 308/3006/various mag loads
2. AR platform 556/223 also innumerable personal options
3. good dbl-action revolver 357mag(too big?)use 38spl it fits and kicks less
reasons;
1. shoot ballistic gel vs any .22 round, sometimes you just gotta go big.
2. proven, easy to operate/maintain/upgrade
3. simple, no muss no fuss just point and shoot
discussions on this topic could go on for infinity
just don’t ask for 4, 5, and 6.
12 ga shotgun, semi-auto, but at least a pump;
AR-15, scoped;
WASR-10 or AK equivalant or SKS;
10mm semi-auto pistol.
I bought one of those for vacation
But I only got a single 10 round mag with it
Emptied 1 mag so far, ventilating my burn barrel. Sweet little gun that conceals easily
Get one of each.
Yep. Very effective, apparently. Those rounds are supersonic, but probably doesnt matter with the noise of the crowd, still hard to place where the shot came from. They should use a 300 BLK bolt action with 208 gr AMAX bullets, even if probably a little less non-lethal.
My Mosin is an urban, short-barrel model
but it doesn’t like modern ammo and sure can’t find any of vintage 7.62 x 54 dirty stuff that could be bought by the 440 count sardine can full just a few years back
I like to keep them the same. So, 9mm.
.45 too rich for me on weapons
LWRC SMG-45 PCC almost3K
H&K USC $1,500
H&K 45 around $800+
Sig P320....yea $530+ but i like to keep it the same caliber. So, I only like the expensive out of range PCC.
I am retired and disabled. So I don’t go out much at all. I think of home defense.
That is, if you can even find anything. People have realized that civilization is a thin veneer over feral human behavior. EVERYTHING is sold out now or price inflated.
I think this is a good indication of a landslide for Trump this November regardless of what the dishonest media says.
[[[[Biggest problem right now is getting enough ammo to develop competence with any weapon system other than 12 ga shotgun, though buckshot seems pretty hard to find.]]]
The heck with buckshot. That stuff goes sailing through multiple walls.
Load up with #7 1/2 or 8 birdshot. Perfect for close in home defense and usually stops in the assailant or IN a wall/trim. Those 5-600 pellets are devastating within its range.
Tell that to Simo Hayha.
Seems like most Freepers are caught up in old fashioned self defense theory.
Modern theory tells us that mis-gendering an individual is an act of physical aggression.
I would develop and train a set of mis-genders. Start with something you can initially handle like “hey there guy, what are you doing in my kitchen?” and train train train until its second nature. Then work up to “girl”, “man”, and such.
A mid range Ar1r can be useful to 600. + m with practice
308 /7.62x51 give you more range and availability but if I wasnt worried about ammo availability Id go 300 Win mag my old model 70 with a Leopold mark 3 was deadly as could be out to 800 yards so long as I did my part
Get a good 22 rifle.
A shotgun in 12 gauge
I dont even own one but if I could only have one or two handguns Id probably do glocks in 9mmbig difference in what I would carry for normal concealed carry, urban issues, or heading into the hinterlands
If you have the time a resources to master it a 357 (hwy patrolman/gp100) will do just about anything you could ever need but learning to shoot Ians reload as fast as a semiauto takes time and dedicationId say I burned 10k rounds and 3x a week practice getting to that level
If you once had these guns, and have handled the wide variety you allude to, why ask an open forum?
You already know the answer, therefore have some other motive.
“...The Israeli IDF uses the Ruger 10/22 as their urban sniper rifle - with a tad bit of modification....”
The lgjhn23 DF also uses the Ruger 10/22 as their rural sniper rifle, with a tad bit of modification as well. ;)
The Finnish mosin is a different sort of cat. A YouTube video by 9 Hole reviews (accuracy videos with many guns) shot one out to 1100 yards with iron sights and had some interesting insights.
