AN ASTEROID the size of the World Trade Centre is on a dangerous Earth-bound orbit that could see the rock smash the planet during Christmas festivities.
The asteroid, known as 216258 2006 WH1, is set for its closest approach to Earth on December 20 - just days before Christmas. The 540 metre space rock is the same size as the World Trade Centre and would cause a significant amount of damage and mass extinction.
... The asteroid hasnt yet been measured on the Torio Impact Hazard Scale, but will likely be listed as a serious threat when and if it is added.

Sounds like part of the Northern Taurid swarm - the remains of a 100 mile diameter comet broken up long ago, but also, with the Southern swarm, believed responsible for the strike in 10,800 BC which incinerated the North American continent killing off the mega fauna and Clovis peoples and brought on the Younger Dryas.

I’ve change the batteries in my 12C multiple times. The calculator continues to work flawlessly. The thread on that gizmo ran over 100 posts...there’s a lotta love for the 12C.

WAY back in the day; I was able to actually hike down inside of Meteor Crater in Arizona.
Since that time, I have heard that a tourist woman hurt her foot/leg/whatever while attempting to hike down. In high heels!
Then came the lawyers; now there is no access.
no; the trail was NOT that bad.

Going to hit the orbit, oh no!
If it destroys the orbit will we read about it in its orbituary?

“That comes to about 360,000 miles, or about 3x the distance to the moon.”
Actually 93,000,000 .039 is 3,627,000 miles and not 367,000 miles.

Yep, guilty as charged. Decimals are a problem before before coffee. The good news is that means an even lower chance of impact and a near-guaranteed 0 on the Torino scale. Christmas will visit earth again.

Meteor Crater impact in 50,000 BC was a 50 meter asteroid traveling at 45,000 mph and about one tenth of 216258 2006 WH1 traveling at 26,000 mph for comparison.

Revelation 8:10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water
11 the name of the star is Wormwood.[a] A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.

Yup. a 540 metre rock will destroy the earth... I don't think they used the word 'destroy'.

Only one in 73,000 chance that the earth will actually BE where the asteroid passes thru the orbit.

Yesterday, a concrete mixer was speeding right at me when I was going through an intersection! Whew! Good thing it didn't get there until 15 seconds later.
