How the Government Made You Fat
PragerU ^ | 9/23/2019 | Bret Scher

How is it that ever since the government began telling us what to eat, we have gotten fatter and sicker?

In 1977, when the government first set dietary guidelines, the average American male weighed 170 pounds. He now weighs 197. It’s not any better for women —145 to 170. And you don’t need an academic study to know the same thing is happening to kids. Just look around.

The weight gain has real-life consequences: the percentage of Americans diagnosed with type 2 diabetes—a condition that can lead to severe medical issues—has risen from 2% in 1977 to over 9% in 2015. In hard numbers, that’s five million people to over 30 million people.

How did this happen?

It all started innocently enough in the 1950s, when President Dwight Eisenhower had a heart attack while in office. Suddenly, the issue of heart health became a national obsession.

People used to be much more physically active.

Jobs for men were mostly physical in nature and centered on manufacturing, mining, farming. Lots of physical work involved.

Women were homemakers and expended lots of energy doing laundry by hand, cooking from scratch, etc.

People are much more sedentary today.

Does anybody actually pay attention to the government nutrition guidelines? I remember getting the handouts and stuff, but I just threw that crap out. Honestly I don’t even remember what they were, and although I know they get adjusted all the time I don’t what they are now either. It’s just government yabber.

Thank you for recognizing the huge part our gut biome plays in our health. No doctor ever mentions it, including gastro dudes.

Dr Fung is the guy that gets the worst cases .. his patients are usually already well down the Diabetic path and on Dialysis and he has brought them back with just Diet.

I love one of his quotes ... “I can make anyone Fat, just give them Insulin”

What do Carbohydrates/Sugars do? Make your body release Insulin.

I hope more people listen to Dr Fung before they end up blind amputees on dialysis

Just exactly which food groups do you think the Ketogenic Diet eliminates?

He says in one of his videos that the reason he started looking at this was because the time patients come to him needing kidney dialysis it’s largely too late.

He also points out that the only other known cure for diabetes is bariatric surgery which cures diabetes in 2 to 4 weeks. But it’s basically a surgically enforced fast. And they’ve compared fasting patients to bariatric patients and the fasting patients have fared better with fewer side effects.

Eating carbs, spikes your blood sugar, so you get hungry more often.

Eating a high fat diet, keeps your blood sugar steady, so you can go most of the day without being hungry. I do 18:6 Intermittent Fasting, almost every day now, and on Keto, it’s a snap!

Yes. Schools, hospitals, the military, and other institutions involved in feeding people base their food on the guidelines. The guidelines inform the common perception of what is healthy and what is not. Where did the idea that low fat food was a good thing come from? The guidelines. They are hugely influential, and people have responded to them. As a population, our consumption of fat, read meat, carbs, and other categories have adjusted to be more in line with the guidelines. And we've gotten sicker.

Bone broth is so easy to make if you have a crock pot. First, buy a clean organic chicken. Roast it with some potatoes and onions in the pan. As soon as you carve it up, put the carcass and wings (first eating the wing meat of course) into the crock pot and put spring water over it (12 or more cups depending on the size of your crock pot, maximize it if possible).

A splash or two of apple cider vinegar, and cook for 18-24 hours, then add leeks and maybe carrots which to me make it too sweet, and herbs you like - oregano, or thyme, etc. cook another 18-24 hours.

Cool and freeze in small quantities. I use solo cups filled to the mark that is roughly 3/4 full. That way I can easily cut the cup away and put the frozen broth into a 2 c Pyrex measuring cup for heating. Salt at that point, add other flavorings like zested ginger or whatever at that point too.

Magic medicine.

If anyone has surgery or recovers from illness, this stuff is what they need, no hospital food.

Fat is made only One way in your body... By Insulin
Carbs trigger Insulin release (Proteins too but very small amount) Saturated Fat does not trigger Insulin release at all.

If you eat more calories than your activity level and metabolism can burn and you do not poop the excess out because of inefficient digestive absorption they will be stored as fat. This is true even if you are throwing all the buns from your hamburgers away, or living only on bacon.

... and they keep eating like they’re laying bricks with their toes for a living or cleaning house without using electricity and then “Somebody” made them gain weight.

Eat less + move more = weight loss
Eat more + move less = weight gain

The trick is that each of us is so different there’s no one real answer for what values fill in for “more” and “less”. That we have to figure out on our own. And then, you know, actually do it!

Now that you know how wrong the government health authorities are on nutrition, please realize they are also wrong on the amounts of injectable toxins that are harmless in neonates.

In both cases, they are wrong SCIENTIFICALLY. They just have big mouths and SAY they are defending science. The scientific method doesn’t actually need defending. It just is.

You can also throw in feet to get additional collagen. I can’t find chicken feet in my area, but I generally add a pig’s foot to the broth. The stuff really gels up to an amazing degree. Feet aren’t absolutely necessary, but it makes a difference.

Honestly, if you have to eat ketogenic, you do need to know you are probably starving the gut bugs that give you health and well being. You don’t have to be. Just make sure your few carbs are their food and you aren’t missing out on anything nutritious.

In my opinion, once you don’t have a seizure disorder or severe mental illness or obesity, you don’t need to stay in actual ketosis 24/7. Just eat low or very low carbs and make sure there is plenty of resistant starch for the gut bugs. They don’t need much.

I love to add the feet. Whole Foods seems to always have them lately. Organic is of course best.

Not true.

Sugar needs to be handled very quickly by the body to keep blood sugar levels from killing you. Too ,uch sugar coming in too quickly has the body, as an emergency measure, store it as fat so it can be dealt with later.

Or use a pressure cooker like an Instant Pot and do it about 2 hours.
