A comet first spotted by a Ukrainian amateur astronomer looks to be just the second known object to visit our cosmic neighborhood from beyond the solar system. What could be an even bigger deal is that this one was discovered as it's still approaching us.
The comet was found by Gennady Borisov of Crimea on Aug. 30, and went by the temporary name GB00234 until very recently. After being watched by several other observatories over the past few weeks, it was given the official name of C/2019 Q4 (Borisov) by the Minor Planet Center on Wednesday.
It appeared to follow a so-called hyperbolic trajectory, which means it doesn't orbit the sun and probably originates from far beyond our solar system.
This comet is still inbound, and won't reach perihelion (its closest pass by the sun) until Dec. 10.

Flash! Aaah-aaaah!
Yeah because they could see it breaking down.
I just watched it last week. :)
What is "so-called" about a hyperbolic trajectory?

Why don’t they just set the controls for the heart of the sun ?

First it was Oumuamua and its sister probe, now its the vessel which will decide out fate ... does it pass through the system or does its trajectory get ‘perturbed’ and aim for the sun? If it goes for the sun, there is a better than even chance it is a superdense object which will cause the sun to nova. Thus explaining why we haven’t heard from any other life forms - they know the price of revealing their location as we have. Fermi just didn’t think the problem through ...
Wolf-Biederman?
The name of the star was Wormwood?
“it is short for web log “
I know that. You inspire me to say “web log” whenever referring to those “blogs”.
I don’t like “twitter” or “tweet” either.
Human conversation needs to be referred to more respectfully.
My missives were published a few times on his blog. Likewise.
Would there be any point in planting a comm package on it? I have often thought we should do that with these travelers but I dont know if there would be any benefit...

Got that image from Daily Mail. Next time I’ll look for any copyright. That image is all over the world (Russia for example).
On no account should you allow a Vogon to read poetry at you.
My recommendation is we send the SQUAD up to negotiate, that way 2 things will happen:
1. We will be rid of the socialist morons
2. The aliens will determine there is no intelligent life here and turn around.
