Urging people to follow low-fat diets and to lower their cholesterol is having disastrous health consequences, a health charity has warned.
In a damning report that accuses major public health bodies of colluding with the food industry, the National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration call for a major overhaul of current dietary guidelines. They say the focus on low-fat diets is failing to address Britains obesity crisis, while snacking between meals is making people fat.
Instead, they call for a return to whole foods such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as high-fat, healthy foods including avocados, arguing: Eating fat does not make you fat.
The report which has caused a huge backlash among the scientific community also argues that saturated fat does not cause heart disease while full-fat dairy, including milk, yoghurt and cheese, can actually protect the heart.
Processed foods labelled low fat, lite, low cholesterol or proven to lower cholesterol should be avoided at all costs, and people with type 2 diabetes should eat a fat-rich diet rather than one based on carbohydrates...

large quantities of carbohydrates is the worst thing most people can do to their bodies... particularly highly processed ones.
Keep your carbs under 100 a day, and unless you have a specific health reason to avoid fats stop worrying about them

You will note LDL for Joe Blow has as its content 25% protein. This, coupled with the small percentage of fat it carries, could explain why LDL creeps up for awhile.
Once I get to my target weight, I will probably add in a few more carbs, but from low-glycemic fruits, and I will eat some more legumes, which are things that are discouraged on a Keto diet.

It’s verrrrry common to pass through KETO FLU, which generally lasts 3 or 4 days, when you first start going keto.
Brain fog, low energy and risk of nearly pooping your GD pants about 3 or 4 times.
Nice, eh..? Should make you really popular.
But after you get through it the other side is FINE.

Actually, that's not quite true. The WORST thing is eating high carbs with high fats together.
Keto is hard on the kidneys.

Dr. Fung: So, there’s two situations, if you have normal kidney function and you eat a high-protein diet and keeping in mind that we often recommend moderate proteins, high fat, low carbohydrate, but if you were to eat a high-protein diet, there’s really no evidence that it would cause kidney damage.
Now, if you have pre-existing kidney disease, there is a worry that the high-protein increases the level of strain on your kidneys and because you have the underlying kidney disease, it can’t take it. That’s fairly severe, kind of moderate to advanced kidney disease.
So, there’s definitely a bit of truth in that, that if you have kidney disease already, then you should be a little bit careful that you don’t eat excessive amounts of dietary protein. But if you don’t have kidney disease to begin with, then, really there’s no evidence that the high-protein diet is detrimental.
Now, keeping in mind, of course, again, I’m not advocating for extremely high levels of protein in the diet I generally advise people to stick to a moderate amount and increase the amount of natural fats
I eased into doing Keto, so I never got the “Keto Flu”, I just gradually decreased my Carb intake over the course of several weeks and eased into it.
IMHO, that's the keys to successful Keto, finding the amount of carbs to maintain your target weight. Currently, I am at my target weight and 50 to 60 carbs per day is my magic number.
Strawberries and blueberries with pecans smothered in heavy cream is my favorite add on.
..... whether they are even PERMITTED to talk about it, much less recommend it. And theres a whole story in that area.

Breaking news ... AHPRA drop all charges!
We are very excited, and relieved to be able to share the news that AHPRA (the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency) have dropped all charges against Gary after 4 1/2 years of us insisting that he had done nothing wrong. No incident of patient harm nor patient complaint having been identified. Not only have they cleared Garys name of any wrong-doing, they have even apologised in writing!

While I don’t know about South Africa, particularly these days, Australia is a MAJOR player in this game, and they have far more meat than they know what to do with. I suspect that the whole country could go low carb and not skip a beat - whereas that would be much tougher for most other countries.

For me I try to keep it simple. Eat a balanced diet, meats, dairy, fish, carbs, veggies, fruits, green smoothies and red wine. Sweet snacks are ok too but not too much. Moderate amounts of food, exercise and rest. Never been significantly overweight in my life and although have to take meds to keep the BP in check no other major health issues at age 63.
Have some small steaks marinating and waiting to be grilled. I try not to overdo anything.
