For many buyers whose top priority is a car that won’t break down, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is gospel. J.D. Power just released the results of its 2019 Initial Quality Study, and the Korean trio of Genesis, Kia, and Hyundai took the top three spots.
Luxury brand Genesis ranked highest, followed by sibling brands Kia and Hyundai. It’s a big win for Genesis which, as a relative newcomer to the luxury segment, needs to build credibility with buyers. The high scores achieved by Kia and Hyundai show that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a quality car. This is the second year in a row that the three Korean brands have swept the top three spots, and it’s Kia’s fifth consecutive year as the top-ranked mass-market brand. Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Nissan, Dodge, Lexus, and Toyota rounded out the top 10. Fiat and Tesla were not included due to inadequate sample size, according to J.D. Power.

It’s my family’s intention to get a Kia Telluride in the near future. It’s exactly what we’re looking for.
I wandered around the new and used at a local dealership today, on foot, lots of attractive models (gasoline powered), and very good fuel economy, but the vehicles tend toward a sort of mini-SUV look, even many of the cars do. Naturally the dealer sexes up the lot by putting any convertibles and Vettes and stuff right along the front. :^)

Riva had its values too. If you could tolerate a falling apart cheap interior and keep the rust away it was among few cars capable to run over 150k miles on two sets of plugs and three oil changes. Then you could rebuild the engine under $200 in parts and maybe 6 hours of labor and make another 150k miles.
When they were still common and everytime there was some major flood in Germany nine in ten cars you have seen on road a day after were Rivas and everything else was towed to scrap yards in the background.
Some folks don’t realize you can hire JD Powers to generate fake poll data for anything you want to sell.
Just like any other source like that. It doesn’t mean the product has no values. Try Kia Stinger. You’d take it over Camry.

The Initial Quality Survey doesn’t mean much. Detroit kept winning during the time that customers were migrating to Toyota and Honda in droves. If you want to keep your car forever, Consumer Reports is an excellent resource because it incorporates reliability surveys for cars up to 10 years old. The real bottom line isn’t that Honda and Toyota have some magic formula. The problem with Detroit is that they pay their UAW employees way too much. Which means they have to chintz out on parts quality. Any UAW supplier they use compounds their problem. UAW suppliers pay their employees too much as well, even without all the featherbedding. And that comes out of parts quality, whether it’s materials or processing.

Yep. We have a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 Turbo. Best car we’ve ever owned. Reliable, economical and plenty of power when you need it.
Only 4k miles so far on my Turbo Elantra GT Sport, but Rock solid so far. And a bonus, I’m getting a steady 36 mpg on the freeway, and 37 if not running the A/C. Not great numbers but since it’s rated at only 32 I’ll take it. The 201 ponies and 7 speed DCT is fun in Sport mode running the paddle shifters.
Suprised Toyota wasn’t higher I hadn’t heard any bad news from them - maybe due to the higher price?
I bought a 2019 Kia Sorento based on JDP and similar services. Very impressed with car’s quality and performance.
PS....My Sorento was built in Georgia.
We bought a KIA Sedona in 2015. Good on gas, lots of room for the grandkids and very easy to drive. We are very happy with it.
Buzzfeed might be better.
I had a Telluride for a week. Bigger than I like but a great vehicle. I’d buy it before a RX 350l or MDX, as well as its direct competitors.
Wouldn't these more expensive cars have more features and so have more things that go wrong during the first 90 days? A car without a sun-roof is unlikely to be marked down because the sun-roof leaks.
