Genesis, Kia, and Hyundai top 2019 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study
Digital Trends ^ | June 21, 2019 | Stephen Edelstein

For many buyers whose top priority is a car that won’t break down, the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study is gospel. J.D. Power just released the results of its 2019 Initial Quality Study, and the Korean trio of Genesis, Kia, and Hyundai took the top three spots.

Luxury brand Genesis ranked highest, followed by sibling brands Kia and Hyundai. It’s a big win for Genesis which, as a relative newcomer to the luxury segment, needs to build credibility with buyers. The high scores achieved by Kia and Hyundai show that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a quality car. This is the second year in a row that the three Korean brands have swept the top three spots, and it’s Kia’s fifth consecutive year as the top-ranked mass-market brand. Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Nissan, Dodge, Lexus, and Toyota rounded out the top 10. Fiat and Tesla were not included due to inadequate sample size, according to J.D. Power.

i loved the comment about that video that you might as well just use buzzfeed to decide what car to buy as using J.D. Powers to make that decision ...

Got 2 Kia Souls, will go for 2 more, again. They added a few more inches to the 2020. Its a comfortable car. Yeah, its made for us seniors and kids looking for something economical. I call it the Beetle of the 21st Century.

Lew's regulars have a delightfully sharp sense of humor. I'm glad he started the LaterClips channel, because Lew Later is a longer, blogger-style (or talk radio) format and I can't quite take him that long. I'd make a wild guess that YouTube asked him and some other leading YT'ers (since YT is demonetizing I guess) to try to produce more content, which is the exact opposite of why YT vlogs work in the first place. He's got a dynamite set, they'd previously (reportedly) been using the 1st floor of the building to warehouse the piles of free stuff sent there for Unbox Therapy shows.

I love my Kia Soul. I’m a senior driver and the Kia Soul is perfect for driving in Atlanta’s crazy traffic.

Hyundai also got J.D.Powers' highest recommendation in 2004 and I bought my Sonata that year. Other than oil changes and factory recommended maintenance, I have replaced the brakes all around and the Michelin tires once.

Glad to see that they have kept up their high standards.

J D Powers is an ad firm. Where did idea come from their ratings of cars are worth a plugged nickel?

Bought my first Hyundia Sonata in 1996. Most reliable car I'd ever owned. Still driving a 2013 and don't have any desire to switch.

So the Koreans are the ones giving the largest bribes to JD Powers these years.

Good on them.

"Where did idea come from their ratings of cars are worth a plugged nickel?"

They're at least worth the price that was paid for those ratings by the car companies that received them.

“” “” What about Lada?

CC””” “

Beats Ford in compact class easily nowadays.

In fact Nissan is using some older Lada platform for Datsun brand now.

Thanks all. My next car (keep your fingers crossed) will be a used electric, an ideal commuter vehicle, and even at Michigan's per kwh rates, crazy economical to drive. *

I meant it sarcastically, but they have come a long way from the Riva.
