A 16-year-old from Gary was shot and killed Thursday while attempting to sell his Xbox.
The teen, identified as Johnny Peluyera, was with his father when they met up with two men near 51st and Maryland streets to sell the teen’s Xbox. They arranged the meeting using an online sales app.
The boy’s father said he knew something wasn’t quite right. He spotted a gun and tried to warn his son, but the teen was shot in the back as he tried to run back to his father’s car.

You would be surprised at the number of times I tried to arrange to meet at a police parking lot or and they dissapeared. It’s usually for a deal that sounds too good to be true (and usually is)
Be careful buying online.
At the very least, arrange to make the sale in the lobby of a police station or other relatively secure area.
I’m guessing the 2 thugs felt “dissed” that a white kid would run away from 2 black guys just because they were black (with a gun.) /sarc
It would be insane to try to do a "Craig's List" type face-to-face sale in Gary, Ind. unless you did it in a police station parking lot. Gary is a lot like Camden, NJ, East St. Louis, Ill. and Compton, Calif.
What is the value of a used Xbox? $50 or $100? That’s more than the value of human life to such jagoffs.
Their intention was likely to rob those selling the xbox in additional to taking the console itself.

FWIW, when I worked in Newark we had some visitors over from NYC. Our job required us to be out in the center city and we met up for lunch. One of my NY cohorts said: I have been in some real s..t holes in Bed Sty and Harlem but I have never seen anything like this. I said to him you should have seen it before the riots burned down a lot of it and it was leveled. He looked aghast and said, you mean they took away the s..t and this is what is left. I said you got it!
So sad. My teen boys were always selling their electronics online and in person to buy newer electronics. One time one son got ripped off buying a used something that was no good. In the end that served as a lesson. This murder is the worst. My heart breaks.
