What is "mind-boggling"? This good news from "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek.
The game show star says he is "near remission" less than three months after announcing his diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer an illness with a survival rate of only 9 percent. Trebek called his positive response to chemotherapy "kind of mind-boggling."
"The doctors said they hadn't seen this kind of positive result in their memory," Trebek told People, adding that some of his tumors "have already shrunk by more than 50 percent."
Trebek, 79, says the progress brought him "tears of joy." He still has several more rounds of chemotherapy before the cancer could go into full remission.

However, stating that someone is "cancer free" is disingenuous at best. It's akin to me mowing down a bunch of weeds in the flower bed and declaring the bed "weed-free". Sure, it is weed-free for now, but they will probably grow back. I spoke with someone yesterday whose wife died of cancer earlier this year. Late last year, she was "cancer-free". I hope Alex will beat the odds on this.
He's something of a throwback to a "better" time. He's an honest liberal. I disagree with (some of) his politics, but I don't find him to be a hateful, disgusting person. To the contrary, in fact. He's in a totally different category from, for example, the Eleventy One slimeballs currently presenting themselves as demonicRAT candidates for President.
I’ll take private capitalist American healthcare for $500 Alex...
Bingo! Exactly right. Thanks for adding that insight.
I’ll take ‘Miracles from God’ for $1000, Alex..............
That’s right. Something is going to get us.
Best of luck with all this.
“TREBEEEK!!”
Sorry - I wish him the best, but it’s unlikely he is going to get off that easy. Not even Steve jobs with all his money could save himself. I suspect he is tired of talking about it and people looking at him like he is about to die - so he is putting on a brave face while he can.
Lost a close relative to this, and once it takes hold it doesn’t want to let go.
McQueen wasnt going thru Chemo. Trebek is.
Jobs also underwent a liver transplant in Memphis (Methodist Hospital), and there were questions as to how he jumped to the top of the list so quickly.
I knew a woman who lived twenty + years with cancer. Started out with breast cancer. Later as bone cancer, too. She was given six months. She lived many more years. She was part of a study of quite a few cancer patients who outlived their life expectancy.
Years later it was just her and one male patient, the others had all passed away. Linda outlived him, too.
She lived on for many years, working at Sears. I have no idea how she lived with the pain. She looked fine. Researchers hope to find why, how she lived so LONG after diagnosed.
The human body is amazing.
My cousin had a malignant tumor on her face many years ago. About 50 years ago. It vanished and never returned.
Wonderful!
Chemo results plus PRAYERS from millions of his fans. God bless you Alex! Keep fighting!!
Marilyn Horne (opera singer) was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2005. She is still alive today.
ML/NJ
As a physician, I have seen miracle cures.
BTW:
Mick Jagger did too..........
I’ve been thinking the current champ might have outlasted Alex.
