What is "mind-boggling"? This good news from "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek.
The game show star says he is "near remission" less than three months after announcing his diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer an illness with a survival rate of only 9 percent. Trebek called his positive response to chemotherapy "kind of mind-boggling."
"The doctors said they hadn't seen this kind of positive result in their memory," Trebek told People, adding that some of his tumors "have already shrunk by more than 50 percent."
Trebek, 79, says the progress brought him "tears of joy." He still has several more rounds of chemotherapy before the cancer could go into full remission.

I hope it is true.
Steve McQueen announced that his cancer had been cured not long before he died.
Great!
I’m not holding my breath. My Step-Dad died last year of this misery. Very little hope for a cure/remission with this evil cancer.
That said - he’s a Republican-hating Canadian who has made his vast fortune via Capitalism, and has access to the BEST healthcare in the world, so he might prove me wrong. ;)
Wow! That’s wonderful news!
One of my brothers lasted less than 3 months with pancreatic cancer. He quit the chemo because it was harder on him than the disease.
Best wishes to Alex.
Hope he is right about this.
It took ten years, multiple Blood Transfusions and four Chemo Regimens lasting two Months each for my Oncologist to declare I was in Remission for Leukemia.
We live in a miraculous age despite what the Democrats say. God Bless Mr. Trebeck and thank goodness for Big Pharma.
I didn’t know he had pancreatic cancer...nor did I know he was 79 years old. I’ve always admired him and enjoyed Jeopardy. I hope this miracle is true for him.
In the pancreatic cancer realm, no medical professionals ever speak about cures or complete remission. They always speak about life extension options. Chemo, in the aggregate, might offer a 5-month life extension - that is, if it doesn’t kill you in the first couple of sessions.
Praise God !
Common for those with pancreatic cancer. Whipple procedure followed by chemo removes cancer. Patient gets two good years, then the cancer returns, this time very aggressive and almost certain death (95%). My stepmom had this. Same for Steve Jobs.
I do hope he is able to beat this, but know the odds are very slim.
That being said, it’s great that, as his career may be at near the end for what ever reason, there is such excitement with the present champion. Always leave on a high note, in other words!
That is exactly what I was thinking.
I had/have prostate cancer. This is far, far, far less invasive than pancreatic cancer and so is the treatement.
That being said, the threat of return is never far from one’s mind.
Hope he has family at his side as he fights this. Many go through this utterly alone except for the Docs/Nurses/Techs
caring for them, dragging themselves into daily radiation treatment by whatever means, while they grow weaker.
Some try to get help with transport from the Cancer Assoc., but are told they don’t qualify. So, some are left on their own. They’ll never forget the sense of abandonment.
I didn’t realize he was almost 80 and still working.
Good for you Alex.
Ping
I suspect he is being optimistic. But if you’re going to have any chance to beat (at least for a time) a cancer like this, state of mind is important. If you decide that you’re going to die from it, you almost certainly will.
I wish him well, TV won’t be the same without Alex hosting Jeopardy.
We all have to die of something.
I'm sure Mr. Trebek would gladly pay $50 million to get those two years with his family.
