FULL TITLE: Country House sensationally wins the Kentucky Derby after first-place finisher Maximum Security is DISQUALIFIED following steward's inquiry for impeding other riders
Country House has won the 2019 Kentucky Derby.
The long-shot horse, with odds of 65-1, was declared the winner of the world-famous $3 million race on Saturday, after Maximum Security was sensationally disqualified in a stewards' call.
Maximum Security crossed the line first, but its championship title was revoked after judges ruled that the thoroughbred had impeded other riders by changing lanes at the final turn.
The 150,000 spectators who descended on Churchill Downs in Louisville to watch the world-famous race were forced to wait for more than 20 minutes for a victor to be declared.
Shortly after 7 pm, Country House was crowned the winner after officials disqualified Maximum Security for the foul.
The shock decision marks the first time in the race's 145 year history that the victor has been changed on the day.

At least with horses, breeders know the actual winners.

It’s all about money now.

I understand Johnny Weird wasn’t there today. He’s the main reason I STOPPED watching the Kentucky Derby a few years ago. It’s turned into gay tabloid trash.
It’s a great American tradition; and the Nation was built on the backs of horses.
Deal.
Coming to NASCAR next.
That’s pretty much why I don’t watch it anymore.
Eventually he’ll probably be on SuperBowl coverage.
What's unfortunate here is that Maximum Security clearly should have been disqualified, but Country House may not have won the race if that blocked horse wasn't impeded by Maximum Security.
Maximum Security moved out away from along the rail, the first lane as they called it, to the fourth lane causing War of Will to almost stumble which would have been a disaster, probably causing at least 4-5 horses to go down. Then just to make the most of his run he dropped back down to the first lane along the rail cutting off Tacitus who was coming up on the inside. I was surprised the Stewards made the call in a race like the Derby, but it was definitely the right call. Country House was just the beneficiary, and the jockey on War of Will should get recognition for keeping his horse upright after being bumped three times.
Maybe, but he was never in front. There were three other horse in a line with him including the real winner who seemed to me to be racing strongest. These sorts of things happen on the turns all the time. It was a minor incident.

And yeah, Country House was certainly the beneficiary, but without the incident, it might not have finished better than 3rd. Just unfortunate all around. Hopefully they'll have clear tracks and no incidents on the final two legs.
$136 and change.
Superfecta (top 4 horses in the right order)...$51k for a $1 bet.
then why did the 1 finish 8th??...terrible call..
