That sounds like a great time. I like fried green tomatoes too, the edible and the movie. :-)
Sounds great, I will have to try it as soon as I can stir things :-)
New line
The best recipes are the ones that somebody has and then modified to make it even better!
Next time you decide to move, check out the chicken fried steak situation first! And sourdough bread! What I miss here is Greek and Indian food. We do have one Indian restaurant that opened here, it’s OK, but never seems too busy so don’t know if it will succeed.
RightGeek deserves the thank you as the one who posted the article.
And I want to thank you all as I told hubby about our discussion, showed him the pictures, think the fried okra did the trick, and now we are going out for Chicken Fried Steak and Fried Okra!
Local place called “Grumpy Jakes’s,” a great BBQ place, has the best.
Lol, who knew the power of fried okra?
i grew up in NE Ohio. A melting pot of nationalities. My parents both Slovak so the cooking food reflected that. Actually quite similar to what one might consider Amish but with a few additional speciality dishes. Met/potatoes; haluski/kapusta; Close friends were polish, Ukranian, German so I was able to have those foods when I visited with them
We next to never went out to eat as a family at restaurants but had a large family and were at each others homes each week for meals/fellowshiop with cousins/aunts/uncles/grands.
I think my first meals out were when I was in high school and started dating
here’s the pierogi restaurant
https://www.poconlinestore.com
My mom didn’t make pierogi. I loved it at friends home. About a mile from my hotel is a pierogi restaurant. I want to try it
“Next time you decide to move, check out the chicken fried steak situation first! And sourdough bread! “
Excellent points! Although it might be hard to get both things in the same location. Aldi’s sourdough bread isn’t bad. It isn’t super sour though but it’s as good as I can find here.
What was I thinking, only looking at taxes, voting record, property values, demographics, ... how could I have forgotten the chicken-fried steak and sourdough bread columns on my spreadsheet!
I’ve never had very much Indian food. I’d like to try it though, isn’t it all vegetarian?
I do miss good German food. Not that we had good German food in Bakersfield, but in Ridgecrest there was a lady from Germany who had a restaurant and it was fantastic. She spoiled us. There is a couple German restaurants here but they aren’t even close to what she made.
Yet, we are supposed to welcome gang invaders.
Oh, I am so jealous! But congratulations on not getting to cook and getting chicken fried steak!
I’m still looking for a Rosy to hire.
I like unsweetened iced tea also. When my son, raised in Texas, came to visit me after I had moved back to California, ordered tea in a San Francisco restaurant, he was shocked when they brought him a cup of hot tea. LOL. Asking for Dr. Pepper will get you a funny look.
Fun fact: summers in Texas are so hot we make instant sun tea. :-)
I just turned it on to catch a glimpse of the President and there is a female anchor on there that is as bad or worse than some I’ve seen on CNN.
Cook the grits as usual. Pour into a loaf pan and chill, causing them to harden. Slice them, and fry in butter or bacon grease.
We have a Cracker Barrel, might need to go there now. Tonight we’re meeting some friends for an early Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately I’ll have to have turkey I suppose. I don’t even know if chicken fried steak will be on the menu, it’s at a Perkins. But I really expected Mom Pop places around here to have more chicken or country fried steak. I have to go 2 Chainz like Chili’s or FATZ, and now Cracker Barrel at least as an option.
Oh okay just like polenta! My only knowledge of grits comes from cooking polenta. But they are pretty much identical, only one is white and one is yellow. And of course one has gravy and the other has sauce, when you want those.
My daughter is a scientist and says that is very likely.
taste is such an individual thing. What I modify and LOVE might make you or others gag
I tend to go cheese, high fat & savory. Bland food is boring to me. Love Indian, Lebanese, Thai.. of course the favs: mexican and Italian
Now’s a good time to tell you about what I am hoping can work out . wherever I light in the future.. my dream... Ive been just coasting for so long it is fun to dream and plan
Starting my own business.. Wine and Dine with Dolly. Lots to develop yet but have worked up 15 basic menus the people can chose from. I cook at their home. Use their cookware & serve on their dishes. would have a paid teen to help/do the cleanup
Dinner parties of 6 or more. Basic fee and so much per person. Food/wine would be ordered and delivered. hosts responsible for hard liquor/beer etc
Will do speciality wine tastings etc. Lots to work out but the menu part is
something I have been able to do here at hotel w/o wifi & just using my word processing program
will do speciality parties (like my fried green tomatoes party... also Gone with Wind, etc for ladies. Working on ideas for men ball game watching
just sharing what I hope might happen. I still am hoping to get the Norwex more firmly launched. It is such a good product that I believe in.
Cant do any of the living in a van. some dreams materialize and some don’t. but it is always fun to plan
Why is it a price? It sounds delightful. Oh, I remember now you were waking them up. We just leave ours. It’s part of the Ambiance of living in the country. And fertilizes the soil for next year. Is that enough rationalizing? :-)
