BRISTOL, Tenn. A Tennessee man lost one of his legs after his son, trying to fend off the 76-year-olds chainsaw attack, drove over the older man with a lawn mower, according to the Sullivan County Sheriffs Office.
The father, identified as Douglas Ferguson, of Bristol, now faces a charge of attempted second degree murder, according to the Bristol Herald Courier.
The incident happened June 28, but, because of the severity of the injury, authorities werent able to serve the arrest warrant until Tuesday.
Officials say Fergusons son was mowing the front lawn when his father went after him with the chainsaw. The son defended himself against the attack by running over the suspect with the lawn mower, according to an SCSO press release obtained by the Kingsport Times-News. The injuries that the suspect (Ferguson) sustained were as a result of the lawn mower striking and running over him.
Ferguson, who was found bleeding from his leg and head, was taken to the hospital where doctors amputated his leg.
Investigators with the sheriffs office said the two men have a long-running feud.
Ferguson was jailed on the attempted murder charge and for violating parole related to a previous aggravated assault, according to the Times-News. Bond was set at $25,000 for the attempted murder charge.
Cue up the Family Feud theme. A reenactment would be nice.
No, in Wisconsin its trucks or shotguns. Maybe snowmobiles.
why I stopped mowing my own grass at age 26
Those zero-turn mowers will cut your leg off every time. You think youre sneaksin with the saw, but then - slam. You been pawned.
(Im a parole officer. I have stories that make this event seem tame and sort of normal.)
“Who wants a leg?”
George Dickel
“Not this guy. Not anymore, anyway.”
LOLOL!
Huh...
Now THERE’S something you don’t see everyday...
The Tennessee Lawnmower Massacre
He has those Alzheimer’s eyes.
Words fail me.
I think it’s the other way around -— a lawn mower can’t outrun a deranged man with a chain saw. But I guess I’m wondering, couldn’t the son have jumped off the mower and run faster than the old man?
How does one do that? My parents could live so much better life if they did this. They get scammed by every con artist in the country. They sometimes have to bum rides because of their poor driving abilities. They are barely able to function (as in cook, pay bills, take medicines, etc . . . ).
Time to bury the hatchet ... er, chainsaw ... er, lawnmower.
.....another classic Free Republic thread!!
This story is freakish and gory, but I cant stop laughing.
Wait. What was the setting on the mower deck? Cuz if it was crazy pop...son will have to answer a few questions. Not all cut and dried.
I’m envisioning a movie here “Silence of the Limb”
Investigators with the sheriffs office said the two men have a long-running feud.
No kidding.

Sounds like a scene for Tim Allen’s Home Improvement. All you need is to have granny jump into the fray with a weed eater.
This has got Florida Man written all over it! I bet there's a family connection somewhere ;)
