BRISTOL, Tenn. A Tennessee man lost one of his legs after his son, trying to fend off the 76-year-olds chainsaw attack, drove over the older man with a lawn mower, according to the Sullivan County Sheriffs Office.
The father, identified as Douglas Ferguson, of Bristol, now faces a charge of attempted second degree murder, according to the Bristol Herald Courier.
The incident happened June 28, but, because of the severity of the injury, authorities werent able to serve the arrest warrant until Tuesday.
Officials say Fergusons son was mowing the front lawn when his father went after him with the chainsaw. The son defended himself against the attack by running over the suspect with the lawn mower, according to an SCSO press release obtained by the Kingsport Times-News. The injuries that the suspect (Ferguson) sustained were as a result of the lawn mower striking and running over him.
Ferguson, who was found bleeding from his leg and head, was taken to the hospital where doctors amputated his leg.
Investigators with the sheriffs office said the two men have a long-running feud.
Ferguson was jailed on the attempted murder charge and for violating parole related to a previous aggravated assault, according to the Times-News. Bond was set at $25,000 for the attempted murder charge.
(JUST KIDDING!)
Hard to believe something like this could happen in Tennessee. It seems so much more like a Florida thing. ;)
Or, Wisconsin.
;-)
If at first you don’t succeed...
It all sounds very sad (and weird) to me.
A man who is strong enough to wield a chainsaw can’t outrun a lawnmower?

I missed by one state - I was going to guess KY.
This is what happens when you outlaw dueling by proper methods.
Was an illegal still in any way involved?
There are times when moving is not just a good thing, it is the only thing.
Florida was the first thing I thought of too.
I’ll bet it was something to see.
Suspect that the guy had Old Timers.
Did FloridaMan move to Tennessee ?
Thanksgiving at their house could be awkward this year.
Well, the son already carved the turkey.
Just great! Now we are going to have to get special licenses and background checks to keep our yards neat.
A man who is strong enough to wield a chainsaw cant outrun a lawnmower?
Not this guy. Not anymore, anyway.
