Perrette's severe allergic reaction landed her in the hospital.
NCIS actress Pauley Perrette suffered a severe allergic reaction caused by her hair dye that landed her in the hospital.
The 45-year-old star, who plays forensic scientist Abby Sciuto on the hit show, warned her Twitter followers to be careful about hair dye allergies in order to avoid having their heads "swell up like a melon" or worse.
Perrette is a natural blonde but she has been dyeing her hair for the past 20 years.
"The other half of my face had become twice the size of my head," she told CBS Los Angeles.
She experienced warning signs six months ago when a rash developed on her scalp and neck, but ignored it. Perrette is considering natural hair dye or possibly wearing a wig.

As biotechnology advances it will only get worse you know. The ability to “print” an entirely new body will cause all sorts of weird stuff to come down the pipe...

Or at least she’s not on any cast list I’ve found.
She should look at this as an opportunity. Get the NCIS scripwriters to come up with a plot in which she is attacked and ends up in the hospital. Use some CGI cosmetics to give her something like her usual look.
When Edward Woodward had a heart attack during mid-season production of popular show The Equalizer, they initially wrote him out of the script by writing that he had been kidnapped. When he was still mostly bedridden, they did a rescue scene in which he was carried around on a stretcher for a short distance, to conclude the two or three parter.
More to the point, when shooting the original Star Trek show, William Shatner was stung by a wasp on the eyelid, and they had to be very crafty, and use a ton of makeup, to hide it.
The hair color instructions tell you to always put some of the mixture on the inside of your elbow or some other “discreet” place and wait 24 hours. If no rash develops it’s supposed to safe to use.
I’ve colored my hair many, many times and, I admit, I never do the test. But I also had a terrible allergic reaction to eyebrow waxing last year (something I’d done many times as well, with no prior problems) so it can definitely happen “all of sudden”.
This kind of thing can be set off by an allergen overload at seasons of the year. Some people have scalp itching after eating strawberries, for instance, which are plentiful in the summer — add a big dish of them to an incipient dye allergy, and whoosh. Off she went. Shellfish are another trigger.
