YOU might think that the United States, with its supersized portions, absurdly high obesity rate, and uniquely American innovations like the Doritos Locos Taco, is home to the worlds most fattening foods. But youd be wrong!
Their national dishes have nothing on these artery-clogging bad boys from around the world. Here are 10 of the most decadent foods youll find in other countries.
Acaraje, Brazil
You know whats really not great for you? Palm oil. A mere tablespoon of the stuff contains a whopping 7 grams of saturated fat which is too bad, because saturated fat makes food taste really great.
Case in point, Brazils acaraje: black-eyed peas formed into a ball, deep-fried in palm oil, and then stuffed with vatapa and caruru (spicy pastes made from dried shrimp, ground cashews and more palm oil).
Churros, Spain
Forget your boring breakfast of Special K and skim milk. In Spain, a popular way for locals to start the day is with a meal of churros.
These fried-dough pastries are dipped in sugar and cinnamon and then heres the fat kicker dipped in a thick hot-chocolate drink. Talk about a morning sugar rush!

Ah, yes, deep-fried Hostess Twinkies. The savoir faire of culinary perfection.
Please don’t shoot the messenger, but real health food people (as opposed to food nazis and fun police) will tell you that, saturated or not, palm oil is VERY good for you.
Good list
However, I’m partial to chocolate eclairs. And don’t get between me and strawberry shortcake with ice cream.
You mean theses are the top ten as if they know all of the rest? I don’t think so.
“but real health food people (as opposed to food nazis and fun police) will tell you that, saturated or not, palm oil is VERY good for you.”
Indeed. And coconut fat is even better than palm kernel oil.
It’s amazing to watch all of the ignorant fools in the media still attacking saturated fat: if we ate NO saturated fat at all, we’d die from malnutrition.
The putative unhealthiness of saturated fat being has been debunked in study after study over and over again, but the misinformation propagated by the 1960’s media just keeps on being recycled, even 50 years later.
The original studies made no distinction between saturated fat and synthetic trans-fats (Crisco and the like), and as it turns out it’s the synthetic fat which was the real poison all along.
Actually, I did.
I grew up on coconut oil which is from Palm family AFAIK.
My cholesterol stays around 150 and never had a heart problem, knock on wood, in my 70’s now.
BTW, on the side of the can is a recipe to fry the contents with buttery scrambled eggs. A friend on mine loves the stuff that way I've not tried it, though I'm willing to give it a shot. Can't be much different than sweetbreads, I'd figure.
Any bets on how many of these the First Mooch has scarfed down on her many overseas “vacations”?
The real kicker is that saturated fat is necessary for a healthy body. It’s transfat that’s a problem.
Also, a few years back, there was a restaurant out in Las Vegas (can’t remember which one), whose priciest and most fattening entree was...a foie gras.
Not a few slices of foie gras, all pan-seared and served in some foo-foo salad. I mean the whole fattened liver, at least a pound, maybe a pound and a half. I don’t see how anyone outside Mr. Creosote could finish something that rich.
Triple Whopper with Cheese
1,200 calories and 80 grams of fat...
The world got nothing on the USA....
Actually those are not churros but porras. Churros are about 1/3 in diameter, they are not straight but form a loop, and nobody puts sugar or cinnamon on them... you just dip them in the hot chocolate (almost as thick as fudge) or coffee.
These are churros:
IT EATS A VILLAGE
I don’t care for the writing style, as it is obviously a mainstream journalist. Liberals love to point out how bad America is. We have super-sized portions. How terrible. And just check out how absurd our obesity rate is. I will bet money that if this bozo were to get cheated of his super-sized portion, he would be the first one to take it out on the server, as if it were the fault of the server. And as far as obesity, it is the liberal welfare-state mentality that gives people money to buy food and doesn’t put any restrictions on the food that they buy, nor does it require the lazy to get off their butts and do some work, which is not only dignified, it is healthy.
Mmm ... poutine. Mouth watering now, and we just had supper!
Where’s the list of the best tasting dishes that are actually good for you? You say such a list doesn’t exist? Mas no!
