Beef: Its what you cant afford for dinner for years to come.
Retail beef prices are near record highs. During 2013, the price consumers paid for ground beef climbed roughly 5%, according to government data beef price data released Thursday finds that consumers paid an average of nearly $3.50 per pound for 100% ground beef.
Whats more, experts say that climbing beef prices are here to stay. The USDAs Economic Research Service projects that beef prices will rise faster than almost anything else this year. Don Close, a cattle economist with Rabo AgriFinance says he thinks prices this year could rise 7-8% and roughly the same amount in 2015. Kevin Good, a senior analyst at cattle research firm CattleFax, says that higher prices will continue through 2015 or 2016.

I’m sure they have cut their herds because of the drought and the cost of feed.
Our currency has been devalued by the Federal Reserve. With the dollar only worth $.60, what do you expect? It will only get much worse as they try to inflate prices to dig themselves out of the debt hole they are in with still cheaper dollars.
Only the finest beef shall continue to be flown in,
from Hawaii, and by chopper and jet,
... for the EXEMPT.
NOTHING but the best for Amerika’s new
tyrannical Masters-of-the-Deficit.
When you print money, your money loses value. Just ask the depression era Germans. A wheel barrow full of deuchmarks to buy a loaf of bread. Coming to an America near you!
Market forces will keep this from happening.
There are so many low-cost alternatives that the alternatives might trend up a bit but the beef market will have to adjust.
Think Starbucks, Duncan and MacDonald’s when we went through some high priced coffee years — not much of an impact on the retail prices.
Toss in a higher minimum wage and Obamacare and it will get even higher.
Yep.
And increasing exports, and smaller herds of higher quality to satisfy the increasing demand for premium cuts.
Wealthier consumers have jacked demand for premium products of all kinds (cars to beef) while the American middle class is being impoverished.
The high protein/low fat and grass fed beef hamburger is selling from $5 to 6/pound in Californicator land. Some vendors try to hide the price by packing it in 12 ounce packs. The math dumbed down Americans don’t know 12 ounces isn’t a pound.
Meanwhile, in the Whitehouse , nothing but Japanese beef @ over 1 $100 a pound is served.
We and our grandkids have moved up from venison burgers to elk burgers. Their Dad got a very nice elk with his bow last fall.
Elk is the best meat we have ever eaten. We have had a lot of great venison and wild pig over the decades, but the elk is the best tasting and most filling.
Yep! Wild deer, pig, turkey, ducks/geese and elk are the best meats ever, and they are free range and organic, if that means anything.
Sometimes here in N GA, I see a pound of burger at $3.09 at Kroger...it is barely pink, fat content is at least 30% - might contain some hooves etc. too....I don’t know.
We need to convince more liberals to become vegans to save the world from carbon Gorebull warming.
That will drive the price of beef down as the demand goes down.
Not a problem if your on welfare.
“Sometimes here in N GA, I see a pound of burger at $3.09 at Kroger...it is barely pink, fat content is at least 30% - might contain some hooves etc. too....I dont know.”
So the prices are up in Ga, before the drought in Californicator land gets blamed for high beef prices.
Filet and Wine or a night at the casino. So many choices...
