Are you truly independent? Do you have the skills? Can you hunt, grow a garden, can food, sew-knit, live off the land? Are you ready? Do you possess the "lost" skills? Our family is ready. In obama's words, "bring it on". Once the economy collapses, I'll be here longer than the liberals and their pampered lives.
I’m willing to give up a little security for a lot of liberty, anyday.
I would love to see the sales of Generators, #10 cans, and other emergency supplies since obama (small o) was elected.
We are not well-supplied, and we’re pretty lazy about our garden, but we do have something that might be useful around, in the event of collapsed civilization: a manual printing press and a manual typewriter. Also, a weaving loom and a 120 year old book of tips on surviving frontier life. Oh, yeah, and we can always catch some fish for food.

Okay, then what do you need a radio or teevee or computer for? Liberate yourself from it. If the S really hits the fan, you won’t need it anyway. And if the S only catches the edge of the fan, it won’t be an issue.
Do what you want, but in the universe of possible ways to expend your precious effort and resource, building a Cadillac Faraday cage is pretty low return.
Frankly, if you already have that all-metal filing cabinet, you’re basically there anyway. I wouldn’t even beef it up. It’s pretty darn good as it stands.
Personally, I would much rather barter ammo than lead.
Costco’s website show that bucket o rations on sale thru 4/3.
HAven’t watched TV in years, and I use the internet mostly as a researching tool. As for the Radio, well, communication is important to me, because I want to know as much as I can, even if it’s just to keep from going insane.
I agree with your reference to the filing cabinet. I only use the smaller tins to make things portable. I don’t have a cadillac Faraday cage, I just responded with links on how to build one, to someone who asked.
I’m worried about how to build our country back together if the S does hit the Fan. Any advice on that?
Meant to say silver.
I would just say to be careful in your idea of “Portion.” I have looked at those and sometimes the idea is a 200 calorie meal. That’s virtually starving as it is less than a thrid of what the average person needs to barely survive, much less “work the fields.” But it’s got some variety and it’s a starting point, I’ll give you that.

Yeah, start with the Constitution. It’s a great blueprint. Those guys were way smarter than I’ll ever be. :-)
Datrex of Mainstay.
Cheap calories.
>> a manual typewriter
Got ribbons?
Thats a perty good deal. The solar charger makes a big difference. The first radio I bought had the hand crank dynamo charger on it, but it took allot of cranking to charge, more cranking than listening time. I got a few more that had the dynamo crank and the solar charger... and that solar cell made a HUGE difference.
Uh-oh.
Not more than one or two. Guess it wouldn’t hurt to see if some are available somewhere.

Or figure out how to make (or improvise) new ones, or re-ink old ones.
I figured it out.
Just got a new washer/dryer, new microwave so I should be fine.
The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
Proverbs 27:12
If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and
especially for his immediate family, he has
denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
