Howdy all, I'm a long-time lurker, occasional poster here on FR. Ive always enjoyed the good articles, lively debate and excellent resources for conservatives here, so Im taking the liberty of bringing a slight issue to yall to see what you think.
Recently (around the start of summer, about two months ago) my younger sister (aged 22) started talking about a young man shed met in one of her Communications classes. She said he was very nice, handsome, smart, and it was obvious that she was starting to take an interest in him. About a month ago, they went out on a date, and just now, she changed her Facebook status to reflect that she was in a relationship with this gentleman.
I clicked on his profile name, and noticed with more than a little dread and disbelief that his political views were Very Liberal and his fan pages were for 0bama, Students for Obama, etc. A lot of his favorite books were by Naomi Klein, Al Franken, Howard Zinn, and the other intelligentsia that the Left loves to trot out.
I havent met this gentleman yet, but were all supposed to have dinner at my parents home tomorrow evening. Any ideas on how I should react to this? My parents raised my sister and myself to honor God, country, and family first, and Im almost a little hurt that shes bringing home the enemy. Im torn between wanting to correct her thinking like an older brother can vs. just letting it go, but I cant really bear the thought of my sister turning into an Obamabot herself. Shes of the college age at a generally liberal campus, so Im worried shes entering a Leftist phase at the behest of this kid.
So, Freepers- how should I handle this? What would you do?
Be polite, but if he brings up a slam on your beliefs, engage him in a nice way. You don’t want to be seen as being hostile, and your sister isn’t to the point where she’s marrying the guy.
He could be an interesting person to know. Keep an open mind.
If you love her, shoot her and put her out of her misery...
Try the old ‘hey, nice to meet you, and if you ever hurt my sister in any way, I’ll kill you’. You’re the older brother and, if this guy has a brain, he won’t do anything to piss you off. Don’t assume he’s your equal, ‘cause he isn’t.
Invite him over to meet the family...and make sure you wear your Obama Joker T-Shit....he’ll get the point.
You’ll piss off your sister...BUT...save her from a life of shame :)
Don’t be hurt about it. Some people have to actually get burned to realize fire really will hurt you. Maybe this guy is “hot” who knows? Just be polite and don’t get heated if you can control it. Chances are you could really tick off yur sister and send her over the deep end.
Have you considered contacting Tony Soprano? It may cost you a few bucks, but hey ... nothing is free, right? :)
when my sister was in Jr. High, and I was in college. I disapproved of the guy she was dating, so I slipped a mushy banana into his shoe when he was over for dinner.
When he slipped it on, he got a mushy surprise!
There are two types of liberals: the brainwashed ones who simply parrot the talking points of their Socialist heroes, and the ones who actually have a working brain and are willing to engage in intellectual discussion.
If the guy is of the former, tell your sister to ditch him.
If the guy is of the latter, just keep a close eye on him.
Both my daughters and their husbands voted for Barry. I, as the patriarch, was told by the older females (including the one I have sex with) to SUCK IT UP FOR THE GOOD OF THE FAMILY.
I’m proud to say, IMO, they are all having voter’s remorse.
Hopefully it will happen in your situation.
I’ve got lots of liberal family members. I’ve found that the best way to deal with them is to make my conservative views known but say little about politics beyond that. Be respectful and kill them with kindness.
From watching their facebook pages etc, I’ve found that they actually have started respecting me and even defending my views to some extent.
Do you know how to apply the figure-four leg lock?
I said that to my granddaughter’s boyfriend—touch her and you’re dead. But we haven’t talked politics, LOL.
When he arrives, greet him at the door and send him packing by telling him that your sister decided she could no longer date someone who couldn’t think for themselves.
T-Wha????
Now that’s an innovative solution to the problem!
Imagine all your holidays spent with this person. Now go do what you have to do.
Just in case, I “know” people to put you in contact with. ;^)
Offer to be his boyfriend.
