WSJ/NBC Poll: Democrats Better to Get Country Out of Recession
Wall Street Journal ^ | 03/03/09 | Susan Davis

Posted on 03/03/2009 2:30:47 PM PST by Big_Monkey

By more than a two-to-one margin, Americans believe the Democratic Party is better suited to getting the country out of a recession over the Republican Party, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll to be released today.

Almost half of all respondents, 48%, identified the Democratic Party, while just one in five, or 20%, said the Republican Party. Some 8% said both parties were equally qualified, while 16% said neither party was qualified.

Comparatively, in December 1990 when the U.S. economy was also going through a recession, the Democratic and Republican parties tied at 33% when asked who was best to lead through a recession.

For more details on the latest WSJ/NBC News poll, check back at Washington Wire at 5:00 p.m. EST. The full poll results will be available at 6:30 p.m. EST.

WTF is this guy talking about? Steele called Rush’s show ugly and agreed with a dimwit who compared the GOP to the Nazi party.

I agree the fighting between two of our fellow conservatives is not a good thing.

That being said, the fight need not be won or fought by those two guys alone.

You and I need to do speak to our friends, relatives, fellow workers, etc.

And we need to do it with firmness but tactfulness.

My spouse and I have had MORE THAN ONE extremely liberal friend express EXTREME regret over Obama and his policies...and we’re only 45 days into his term.

We have to listen and nod and affirm their regret and not jump into their face and say “Why didn’t you listen?! This guy is a jerk!!! Why did you vote for him idiot!??!!” That would only drive them away.

My mere point is the battle is won in the grass roots...and that is where I am. Let’s change our neighborhoods and communities....give Hussein a shock in 2010 by kicking his party’s ASS.

Hope you’re right but, with Obama’s use of the bully pulpit, I think that’ll take a while.

President Bush severely neglected to make use of his position to state his case. Obama isn’t making the same mistake.

"Watch these results change radically as the problem progresses into a Depression."

I see your point. You must mean just like Roosevelt's numbers sank into an abyss while his policies wrecked havoc on an already weak and failing economy.

Except for that little thing called history. You see, Roosevelt enjoyed ENORMOUS popularity even though the Depression was at it's deepest with unemployment approaching 30% in some states. Roosevelt was re-elected in 1936 IN A ABSOLUTE LANDSLIDE.

But hey, why worry about these pesky little opinion polls - they're probably all just DNC propoganda anyways.

There we go GOP. Keep spending your time defending a talk show host while the DNC mounts more than a two-to-one lead in economic policy approval.

Why not. 50% are getting a check from the government. Handing out checks to another 15% is the goal for Barry & these sniveling leftist. The so-called conservatives are bought off just like the rest of CONgress. BTW who did this poll & where is Barrys birth certificate - as if that matters to so-called conservatives.

Look this basically affirms what we saw in November. People are pissed - they blame Bush because every news outlet said it is Bush’s policies that led to this. There is some degree in truth there. George 41 had the same thing happen - paid more attention to foreign affairs than domestic and the recession caught him at the wrong time. George 43 was great on the economy in 2001-2005, then when the war news turned bad, he lost focus. Taxes needed to be cut more. Reform of Fannie and Freddie should be been accomplished by Executive Order if the Congress refused.

Now the media will not let their Anointed One be blamed for anything. The country is ripe for Socialism and like it or not, it is headed there. We dissed the polls last year and you know what? They were right, we were wrong. America as we know it is ending. America as our Founding Fathers created has been gone for some time now. The talk shows some of us love need to start facing reality. It is time we Conservatives pulled out our investments. Time for us to unite. We can’t win a Revolution, so the only choice left is to just leave the current system and start our own. The landscape here in Texas is ripe for secession. I know many of you cringe at the thought. I once felt that way too. But November 5th was a very dark day. My eyes opened to a stark reality of how we were lulled into complacency - by pretend Conservative leaders and a pretend Conservative GOP. You can clearly see we are now going to be completely marginalized. The NYT is more or less now calling for an end to the filibuster (not that the spineless GOP would ever attempt such a thing). This began in 2001 with the power-sharing in the Senate. The media is empowered to do whatever they want and have even corrupted Fox News. Next, some version of the Fairness Doctrine, and nationalized health care. These Dems don’t care about spending and the American people don’t seem to either - as long as they get theirs. Eat The Rich is the mantra, and while I can agree that the Socialism/Marxism will fail, it will take many years for that to happen. So, do we go along for that ride, hoping we get to say “I told you so” before we die? Or do we stick to our Conservative principles and flip DC the bird?

There is a big difference between the 1930’s and the 2000,s. The Democrats were far more conservative than today’s communists. Also the American people had a moral, religious fiber and toughness which our people today pathetically lack. Our people of today could not have fought WWII and prevailed over the Tipartite Axis by more than a country mile. Our society today is mostly comprised of shallow, selfish, amoral whiners. Sad but also true.

In just a few months, the dems will NOT be seen as the party to get us out of the depression.

I think your absolutely right. It's our collective idiocy and "neediness" that I think Obama will continue to mine and exploit.

As his programs continue to worsen the economy and he'll just ratchet up the class-warfare argument. And I'm afraid the "whiners", as you've put it will eat it up with a knife and fork.

I can't remember exactly, but I believe the top marginal tax rate under Roosevelt's third term was over 80% and was approaching 90%. Obama's got a lot of room to leverage the great unwashed against the actual producer's in this country.

Finally, I think people that dismiss these polls out of hand, do so at their own peril. Make no mistake, Obama is popular like Roosevelt. I just hope he won't be able to keep up the same charade, but I won't be surprised if he does.

Yes, there is that option as well. If Obama keeps pissing off our military, it will end up being easier to win than one would think.

This may get me in trouble, but maybe Obama is not the new Jimmy Carter, but instead the new Salvador Allende.

I think he and many of his cohorts will be destroyed by acts of violence from the greatest force in the universe and reduced to ashes from which they will never rise from ever again. The Perfect Storm like Katrina is coming!! (Hint: See my tagline)

You and I aren't that far apart. I have been saying for some time that conservatives need to make a sober assessment of the current political climate and decide to they want to give in a little in some very limited ways, or do they want to be completely run over and forgotten.

I think that there are a LOT of people who believe we just have to weather this storm, and eventually it will pass and the worm will turn. I just don't think it will - at least not until irreparable damage is done to the country, to the Constitution and to it's loyal servants.

The GOP needs ideas and plans and (I'll use the dreaded word) programs to act as a alternative to Obama. Many have said that we can't become Democrat-lite. I would agree, but we also can't just be anti-Obama. That's not going to work this time.
