By more than a two-to-one margin, Americans believe the Democratic Party is better suited to getting the country out of a recession over the Republican Party, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll to be released today.
Almost half of all respondents, 48%, identified the Democratic Party, while just one in five, or 20%, said the Republican Party. Some 8% said both parties were equally qualified, while 16% said neither party was qualified.
Comparatively, in December 1990 when the U.S. economy was also going through a recession, the Democratic and Republican parties tied at 33% when asked who was best to lead through a recession.

How's that working out Mr. Steele & Mr. Limbaugh?
LOL
It’s a trash poll, and as such its meaningless.
Watch these results change radically as the problem progresses into a Depression.
It’s a trash poll, and as such its meaningless.
The blind following the blind.
Laughing my ass off right now...
Yes, but 44% did NOT say the Democrats could fix it.
Yes it is!
Democrats ARE better at getting us out of recession....right into depression!
Yeah, like FDR and Jimmy Carter did! That’s the ticket!
The government monopoly of education is paying off for the collectivists.
Patience.
The GOP, however, DOES need to make the point the Dems took Congress in 2006 and seized the housing and banking committees. Well, if we’re serious about winning seats in 2010.
Actually, even as a trash poll -—
Is it not odd that Democrats arent doing better than 50%?
The guy has only been President for a month. He won with 53% of the vote and already he’s down to 48% in an NBC poll as to who’s better on the economy. Let’s see where the poll is if the market loses another 20% by Easter. These numbers can and will change very quickly.
What’s most amazing to me is that given these numbers, and they reall haven’t changed all that much from last fall, that McCain got 46% and came extremely close to winning IN, NC, FL and OH.
He should have been blown out by 20 given these numbers.
The future is not all bleak. Parties can go south very quickly. Just look at the GOP from 2006-2008. It can happen like that.
When everyone called is in NYC, Boston and similar cities, is there really any surprise in the results?
Wait till BO closes the coal plants and leaves the East Coast without electricity, forces the auto companies to build toy electric cars that no one can afford, rations health care to the Senior Citizens, hikes taxes on cell phones for the teens and college crowd etc. etc.
We’ll check his popularity numbers then.
A) NBC/WSJ poll is a trash poll, and is empirically one of THE. MOST. INACCURATE. POLLS. EVAH.
B) Americans will love Obama no matter what. Obama could support a bill defending infanticide and they would still support him. Oh wait...
wrong, wrong wrong.
It’s more like this “Hey Democrats, what are you doing about the economy? Other than trashing a talkshow host”
And November 4th proved that 52% of Americans are hopey changey dopes.
