Angry programmers riot, shouting 'Death to India'
The Daily Redundancy ^

Posted on 03/14/2008 11:46:02 AM PDT by chordmaster

SAN JOSE, CA (TDR) - Hundreds of angry programmers took to the streets burning Indian flags, and chanting anti-Indian slogans after Wednesday morning production meetings. The protesters - mostly young males - have reached a boiling point after years of technological imperialism and failed Indian programming policies. Busy midday traffic came to a halt as this once proud high-tech mecca was transformed into raging, socially-challenged powder keg of humanity...

that’s the competition that will win in the market. You don’t need to be coddled like a baby by the govt.

few odd old woman programmers like myself.

Women like you make me proud to be a member of your profession.

Giggle, although I personally argued with Bill Gates back in 1976, we respected each other and changed the world.

I dropped out of college because the teachers did not have a clue about this new technology.

When I was teaching the teachers, college became useless to me.

It only seems that when that kicked in, American tech help seemed all of a sudden seemed to be replaced by the Indians with their lousy knowledge of English and computers.

Compete at what...giving Indians pennies for giving lousy technical support to Dell customers?

BTTT - good point. Salaries and hourly rates in India are not as low as people here think they are. Additionally, with the falling $, the “potential” savings from outsourcing aren’t as rosy as before.

I’ve heard that a lot of companies have had to come back around to their American programmers after either outsourcing or hiring a bunch of foreign tech people.

I have had mixed experience with foreign programmers. The biggest thing that I can say is that they either won’t follow directions, or won’t do anything other than what you tell them to do, nothing in the middle like “use your own discretion and creativity within these criteria.”

It’s tough to compete with someone who only charges $5 per hour and doesn’t have nearly the regulations and taxes of this country.

Word.

Yep, it's a global economy now. If we want to live 20 to a two bedroom apartment or single-wide trailer, if we want to ride a dozen to a mini-van, then we will compete with the rest of the world.

The tax structure and regulatory burden are killing us.

Send your children to law school; maybe we can sue the third world to get our competitive edge back.

Money making opportunity:

Teach Indian tech support people to talk with a Texas accent.

A friend of mine’s brother-in-law, used to run the California call center for VISA, until they outsourced it to India. Less than a year later, they hired him back, along with his assistant with a very large pay increase. Actually, I think that he may be working as a consultant, naming his own pay.

won’t do anything other than what you tell them to do

Foreign programmers have no choice but to do exactly what they are told to do.

I make the impossible become reality, because I refuse to follow directions and never allow anyone to tell me something can not be done.

I have been fighting the system for 35 years now, and I always win.

...agreed. IMO, our problems with US business management are more social than economic. The USA has a venereal disease of the mind, and developing countries are rushing to catch it. Sad, that.

Gee, I was in downtown San Jose on Wednesday at a conference filled with young male programmers and the few odd old woman programmers like myself. It really was rather boring, with 3 and 4 letter acronyms being freely thrown around, accompanied by the sound of ohs and ahs by the male participants.

Did you play "Buzzword Bingo?"

After 35 years of programming, can you guess what my reply to this would be?

How about...

These children are proud of acronyms instead of their achievements?

They actually threw out one acronym "MVC" and said if you didn't know what it meant, you probably didn't belong there. Here I was there trying to find out why their product did not work as expected or purported. I think I found out the reason.

Their proud demo moment was showing how the product had been adapted for use on the iphone. Now about 99% of us in the room had Blackberries and there was no practical reason to have their product on a phone, unless you just needed access to new background pictures all the time or something.

Maybe the Democrats can extend voting rights to these people?

They could mail the ballots to India.

acronym "MVC"

Having been a Software Engineer for 35 years now, I have no clue what MVC is!"

Obviously, it is not important in how I increase the profits for my company.

I feel sorry for these children...

nobody wants to blame themselves for not being able to compete with the rest of the world.

Especially CEOs.

Check out the corporate bonuses handed out like candy to companies with multi-billion dollar losses...who then lay off scads of US employees to "save money".

Cheers!
