(08-29) 15:20 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- As many as 14 people were injured this afternoon by a motorist who drove around San Francisco running them down before he was arrested, authorities said.
Seven of those injured were in critical condition, police and firefighters said.
Authorities have identified the man who was arrested as Ohmeed Aziz Popal, who has an address in Ceres.
Authorities said they believe Popal was the same driver who ran over a 55-year-old man walking in a bicycle lane in Fremont, at Fremont Boulevard near Ferry Lane, just after noon. That victim died.
Popal was arrested at a Walgreens at Spruce and California streets.

The driver's name was not immediately released, but state motor vehicle records show the license plate on the SUV registered to Omeed A. Popal of Fremont.
And of course, nobody had a clue why he did this.
"These are the things, these are so senseless," Mayor Gavin Newsom said after meeting with victims and their families. "They're utterly inexplicable. They're impossible to rationalize."
Okay, so his cousin, Zargona Ramish had a clue.
"He thought the devil was coming to him," said Zargona Ramish, who went to the family's home Tuesday afternoon while Popal's relatives were speaking with police. "He is a very good person. He is not like that. What's wrong with him?"

I just read a news article that indicated he had just returned from Afghanistan, where he had been matched up for an arranged wedding.
Basically! And this was before I saw and heard on KRON4 this 'sad' story of travelling to Afghanistan to get married, and stressing out because his weife couldn't get a visa.
Oh brother! That is all we need. More muzzies in Fremont. Oh, and something I didn't hear is that he targeted Jooooz. Who would have guessed such a crazy thing!

This concerns me. I don't care about some drunk or someone who had a bad day mouthing off. I do care about people being hurt or killed. These are acts of terrorism. Yet in both cases I saw little outrage in the media. Seems greater emphasis was given to trivial comments made by Nagin, Coulter and Johnny Rocker.

Actually, I don't know if he did target anybody in particular - other than people he perceived as Americans.
If you know SF, you'll know that most of the streets he was on were simply long, straight streets where he could have picked up enough speed to do damage. There are some Jewish organizations and hospitals a little further along, where he hit some people, but I think it may have been a coincidence. The Western Addition has a rich yuppified margin, but most of it is still black, and I believe he hit his first victims in the black neighborhood.
But I don't think there's any doubt at all that his motivation was hatred of Americans. A bystander even heard him declare he was a terrorist when he was arrested, and this is the statement the police are "examining closely" and refuse to release.

You can access the video clip at ktvu.com, where the reporter says that an unnamed witness said that Popal referred to himself as a terrorist. OTOH, the same clip has an interview with the guy who dragged one of the victims to safety as Popal came back at him -- the guy looks and sounds 100% as Arab as Popal.
There are a lot of Lebanese Christians in San Francisco. They fled to SF in the 1970s and opened little grocery stores, many of them in poor neighborhoods. They were good citizens and always had a little Nativity scene in their windows at Christmas. I would say the guy who dragged the victim to safety was probably Lebanese.
If some nazi white guy started running over Blacks, the media would be hysterical. Howerver, it's open season on Jews and eventually all of us-they don't care.
