Internet Dating:

Meeting the Parents:

Now, for some fun questions to kick off tonight’s thread!

1. Have you been on a date with someone you met on the Internet?
2. Did the date go well? Did a relationship result?
3. Did you meet them on a dating site or elsewhere? Was it totally by accident or chance?
4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know.
5. Any funny or interesting “meeting the parents” stories?
6. Has meeting the parents ever caused a breakup?
7. And, finally, have you ever set up a “backup” scenario to get out of a potentially bad date?

Shouldn't be a problem. XP runs on NTFS (usually), but can also work on a FAT32 partition. Either way, you shouldn't have a problem with filenames.

If you have a lot of images, it's possible that explorer.exe (which in XP handles the directories) is overloaded. Lots of pictures require a lot of memory as explorer shows most all the thumbnails--learned that the hard way...8^)

Then if that's the case, then I would recommend splitting the images over several directories. That way, Explorer won't have to work as hard and suck up memory.

If that doesn't work, let me know, describe the problem as best as you can, and I'll put up a TechSupport thread.

That's a very nice picture. May he rest in peace. Your life is an honor to his legacy.

Hi All!!

I had a good day today. I went skeet shooting for the third time in my life and the first time in four years. I shot five rounds, and my left shoulder is a little tired from holding up the gun. My right shoulder is fine which says that I got the gun in the right position every time. I'm not a great shot, but I did okay for a guy who's done so little shotgun shooting. I'm hoping to shoot a little more regularly from now on. It's an expensive hobby, but I can afford to do a little bit. I joined the gun club again, and I hope I'll go out to do some handgun shooting as well.

The other nice event of my weekend is that this little girl ate her first frozen and then thawed mouse last night. Getting them to eat frozen and thawed food makes owning these animals much easier and usually safer for the animal. It's been a pretty good day.

Bill

Hi Dolly-
My Dad has had tremendous luck on Match.com - he has been seeing a woman for about 7 years now and they are best friends and happy together. Although I wish he hadn't sworn to never marry again after my Mom passed, I give his girlfriend credit that she can go this long without a proposal!!! She is sweet, my family loves her and she treats all of us (grandkids included) just great.

The man I met was back in Buffalo about six months after my husband and I seperated. He was divorced with three kids, a kind person and good father. I let him know in the beginning the circumstances of my marriage breakup and that I would probably be moving to NJ (I did) so I was just looking for companionship until the divorce was final and then I could move... It turned out to be a very good experience and since we had both tried so hard to save our marriages, we had a connection with each other that is hard to have with others that have not been through it.

I did learn that dating a man with three children is tough, and his situation was even tougher because his ex-wife had become involved in some sordid things, and he had to be both mom and dad to his kids.

I hope he and I will always be friends, but I suspect that since we are both in our 30's, we will likely drift apart when we meet someone special. I'll always be thankful to him for getting me thru a difficult time. He even met my family a few times and it was a good experience.

Again, I'd recommend Internet dating to anyone, as long as you can tell yourself that you have no great expectations. Then if it turns out to be just "ok" then you've had a good time, but if it's wonderful, then its a BONUS!

your friend sounds very lonely, gullible & not too bright worldly wise...I guess it will be the school of hard knocks for him along the way. It must break your heart to be able to see this happening & look at it objectively.

The rose colored glasses of lust/love/neediness really throw things off

Anything you say will be construed as jealousy possibly.

Perhaps their salvation would be too really work on finding a home business they can do together. My niece earns about 1000/mo selling things on e-bay. she buys at thrift places, garage sales etc. She has 5 kids is only 34 & loves being home. Her hubby has job/benefits but it doesn't go far with that large a family (and they all have mega medical problems)

Yesh, I know, I think he feels like he wants to put this on the fast track because he will be 41 plus his mom is on dialysis. Even so, there is a very wrong way to go about it. I don't say much because it's his life plus I don't want to lose him as a buddy. Maybe it's me, but I have been in business for myself for a bit a while back and I liked it better when I went back to more of a 9 to 5 world. When you are in business for yourself, you're basically "on call" 24 hours a day it seems, me, I like to know the time to quit and know I can leave my problems at the office for me to tackle the next day, unless it is crunch time, then it is time for overtime, but that is very rare. I know to know when I leave work, I'm flying on my own time, no one elses.

"your friend sounds very lonely, gullible & not too bright worldly wise...I guess it will be the school of hard knocks for him along the way. It must break your heart to be able to see this happening & look at it objectively. "

You know, looking on the bright side of things, at least she moved to be with him. And it doesn't seem like he's really had to give anything up for the girl at this point. I'd give him props for having the girl come here.

I've heard horror stories on the Internet and from an acquaintance about women and men just picking up their lives and moving to another state or country to live with someone they met on the Internet and how it turned out so badly.

At least your friend has the upper hand and maybe at 41 he is just taking a wild chance. Give him support, and I LOVE DollyCali's idea about the home business. If she can't work legally in the country, then online is a good place. If she becomes a drag on your friend financially, then its time to say something, IMHO of course.
