Just seconds after being named this season's Apprentice, Randal Pinkett made his first executive decision -- he instructed Donald Trump not to hire his competitor Rebecca Jarvis.
"I think there should be only one apprentice," he said when Trump asked if Jarvis should also be hired. "I think that's the way it should be."
While it was obvious The Donald had planned on offering jobs to both candidates, Trump did not hesitate in granting Pinkett's wish and making him the sole Apprentice.
For Jarvis this was a huge slap in the face.
Not only did the 23-year-old outshine Pinkett during their final tasks -- hosting different fundraising events -- she has an exceptional resume, including starting a children's charity at only 15-years-old.
"Rebecca, I think you are brilliant and you have a tremendous future. Basically, I am stuck with two stars," said Trump.
In the end, it was Pinkett's extensive education (he's a Rhodes Scholar who attended both Oxford and MIT) and leadership abilities that won The Donald over.
"Randal, you have been outstanding. Rarely have I seen a leader as good as you," said Trump just moments before announcing his choice during the show's live finale at the Lincoln Centre in New York.
Although Pinkett was a shoo-in to win The Apprentice from the start, he failed to impress the boss during his last challenge, running a celebrity softball game and auction.
The 34-year-old, who did not check the weather forecast and was, therefore, caught off guard when it began to rain, did manage to pull off the auction segment of the event inside the baseball arena, but Trump and his executives were disappointed in the final product.
Jarvis, however, planned an exceptional event for Yahoo, right down to the little purple flashing light ice cubes that were served in the drinks. But her team failed to raise any money for their charity, which Trump felt was unacceptable.
As the winner of this season's The Apprentice, Pinkett will oversee massive construction projects at Trump's three hotels and casinos in Atlantic City.
Meanwhile, season five of The Apprentice is set to air next spring.
I haven't watched at all this season but this sounds exciting! I will watch the rerun.
Have any of the contest winners actually gone on to do anything? Didn't the first guy essentially move to Chicago and disappear? I confess, I don't keep up with this stuff.
"NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
Get THE COMFY CHAIR!
I agree with Randal. It seemed tone deaf to me for the Donald to ask the Black Aprrentice to share his prize. he never asked the bland white guys who've won before to do that-- Randal was a dominant performer and deserved to be the only Apprentice crowned last night.
This is sarcasm right?? Certainly you can't care that much.
I remember reading somewhere about a college campus where student groups could borrow money for fundraisers but they couldn't raise the money without borrowing it.... they would borrow and spend $10K to raise $5K or something like that. It must have been in California or something
Actually, most Apprentice runners up have made more money than the winner has - and without Grumpy Donald as a boss. Bill (first season) is leaving, Kelly (second season) is already gone and Kendra (third season) got out of her contract. At least Rebecca knows there's a job waiting for her at Yahoo.
Where did you get your info about Bill, Kelly and Kendra?? I thought Randall made the right call last night and he did use the words "not tonight" when Donald asked him about hiring Rebecca. He is free to hire her today or tomorrow but Randall competed for and deservedly won the top spot.
Randall reminds me of many military officers who are book smart and got 1500 on the SAT but are as dumb as a box of rocks !
Wrong answer if Trump Enterprises is better off with her.
Who cares about this babble?
I thought it was a low blow. He'd be dam lucky to find anybody else as talented as Rebecca on the open market.
That was when I realized that she was going to lose. No matter how well she had done in everything else, she lacked the experience to determine who her client was, and that you don't treat your boss like he is a nobody. She also missed the goal .. she didn't raise any money.
I have known a lot of educated idiots. Randall did not strike me as one of them.

...
ie., most of them have spent so much time in the safe unchallenging insular academia environment they become rendered socially inept for the real world. When its the student(or parents/scholarship) who is forking over all that college tuition the student always gets the pat on the head.
I have to agree with you on that.
