Yikes! You could be in bother!!
Seriously, I am always skeptical of scaremongering from the scientific community, is this really possible?

If you live near a volcano, even one that's been inactive for centuries, there's always a chance of being wiped out by a major eruption. The scientific community is not real great at predicting when this will happen, though.
Sometimes the things just go BLAM! Many other times there's activity in advance suggesting an eruption is imminent, but "imminent" could be tomorrow or next month. It's very hard to plan and order an evacuation until it's just about too late.

Oh, yes. The last big lahar, occuring on the northern face of the mountain, created the Green River Valley which is now heavily populated.
It's less likely than, say, a lahar on the southern side. Something about the quality of the rock on the northern face. It's more likely it would go the other direction and wipe out Puyallup.
I did play "stump the insurance company" when I called USAA to ask if they considered a lahar to be "volcano" or "flood". They had to call me back. Tee hee!

Thank God all Irish volcanos are extinct!! Two mountains in Co. Mayo, Nephin, and the historical Croagh Patrick, are both believed to be extinct volcanos.

I guess freak catastrophes do happen, like NO and the Tsunami, then you have Iceland - it has so much volcanic activity, it's physical map has to be changed every few years (think Surtsey Island)!
BTW, they are doing a lot of worrying about the geological activity under Yellowstone Park - what do ye make of it?

Yellowstone is very interesting.
Apparently the entire park is inside a volcano. You can see the crater walls from space.
Very cool. Will she blow? Who knows... I'm just glad I live to the west.

Very cool. Will she blow? Who knows... I'm just glad I live to the west. We have lots of other potential trouble spots out West. There's Long Valley CA (though it's been quiet for a while now), and they've discovered a "mound" growing in the 3 Sisters region in Oregon.

MUI if Yellowstone Caldera blows it is the end of life on Planet Earth.
Really. It would create an ash cloud that would cover he earth and essentially stop all growth on the planet.
Sort of like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters.
