A Friend To The End

Read:
Proverbs 18:14-24

There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. -Proverbs 18:24

Bible In One Year: Proverbs 15-18

cover Traditionally, medical schools have trained their students to help patients live, while offering little instruction in helping them face death. But that is changing with the addition of courses in end-of-life care. Physicians are now taught that when they have used all their medical expertise without achieving a cure, they should seize the opportunity to stand compassionately beside their dying patients and be a friend.

Death frightens many of us and makes us feel awkward in the presence of a terminally ill person. But our greatest opportunities to help someone in Jesus' name may come during a person's final days on earth.

The Bible speaks of a friendship that knows no limits. "A friend loves at all times," said the wise man (Proverbs 17:17). And "there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (18:24). Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends" (John 15:13).

Jesus is both our Great Physician and our Friend, and He promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He calls us to stand with our friends and family in His name as their earthly journey nears its end. That's what a true friend would do. -David McCasland

A friend is he who always knows
When the cold wind of trouble blows,
Who comes in dark and stormy night
With friendship's glowing lamp alight. -Mason

A true friend stays true to the end.

Daily Prayers are Heaven's Stairs

The "Stairway" rises "Heaven high"-
The "steps" are dark and steep,
In weariness we climb them
As we stumble, fall and weep...
And many times we falter
Along the "path of prayer"
Wondering if You hear us
And if You really care...
Oh, give us some assurance,
Restore our faith anew,
So we can keep on climbing
The "Stairs of Prayer" to You-
For we are weak and wavering,
Uncertain and unsure,
And only meeting You in prayer
Can help us to endure
All life's trials and troubles
It's sickness, pain and sorrow,
And give us strength and courage
To face and meet tomorrow!

Starting to get some press coverage.

Three vie for Swanick’s seat
Eric OConnor
Sunday, June 05, 2005

The major parties have announced their candidates for the Erie County Legislature seat in the 10th District, and for the first time in 26 years, Chuck Swanick isn’t an option for voters.

Kenmore Village Trustee Michelle Iannello has claimed the nominations from the Democratic, Independent, Conservative and Working Families parties. Bill Naab is the Republican choice, which sets up a primary election between he and Grand Island contractor Rus Thompson.

The 10th District includes the City of Tonawanda, Grand Island and western chunks of Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda.

Iannello was out campaigning Saturday in Niawanda Park. She said people kept asking her why she’s gunning for a seat on a Legislature that is largely responsible for the county’s multi-million dollar deficit.

“A lot of people are asking me why I want the job. I’m as frustrated as anyone, that’s why,” she said.

“I’m not the same old. I have a lot of ideas. I’m here to represent the people. They want change. The way they look at it, anybody can do a better job than the people in there.”

But Thompson said the major party’s choices are exactly that — the same old.

“Every candidate that is endorsed by the parties is the status quo,” he said. “The parties are scrambling to hold onto power. They’re looking out for the party, not the public.”

Good morning, OESY.

Hmmmmm ..... is there a holiday that I'm unaware of? Thank you for the Chart Toppers. Was Nature Boy really that many years ago? I remember my aunt coming by with that record and asking my Mom if she had heard it yet. Of course, I was still in the cradle. :)

I'm searching the net for any other holidays. Until then ....

Happy World Environment Day!

Great, Rus.

Love to see you getting some coverage. I hope the voters pay attention to their choices instead of just voting the same old ticket.

Good Luck!!
