Sorry I gave you a heart stopping moment about that ick who used to dirty up our Whitehouse.

kassie, it's turned pretty nice today. it's still overcast but there are patches of blue every once in awhile.

I just read the article about the illegals trashing areas where they travel. That is a shame. I can imagine the anger of the landowners. I know I would be. Our men learned to pick up after themselves, because though I did not speak their language, I told them in no uncertain terms that the place would be policed every day, without pay, until they learned to put their lunch papers in the trash can. Roomey was horrified, because women in their land did not speak like that. I told him I was an American woman and we speak like that, I whistle too when I'm working. They got used to that too. They live here, they keep the place clean and accept American ways, or take themselves back where they came from. No, my men had green cards. I made sure of that, it costs too much if an illegal is found working for a company. I will say, I trusted each and every one of those men who worked for us. They never took what didn't belong to them, they were always polite they worked like trojans, they took their breaks and went right back to work. We could trust that though our business was dangerous and dirty, those men were careful and always came to work spit and polish clean. And they got used to me. If one did hurt himself on the job, he knew he could come to me for nursing care, or I'd take him into our doctor, if I couldn't handle it. Roomey said behind my back they called me Dr. One even brought his wife when she was in labor, their first child, I took her to the hospital.

I'm proud that about three have their own businesses, two are supervisors at local plants and one has put his daughter through medical school in Mexico and his second daughter is studying law. No he works somewhere else now, he's a ranch manager. We keep in touch with most of them, they drop by and visit, show us their new babies, and let us know what is going on.

Long live Pope Benedict XVI.

I couldn't be more pleased. Son was allowed to stop studies and watch FNC.

Conservative - Catholic - sounds good.

German; born in Bavaria.

And yes, he was a member of the Hitler Youth Party. But it was MANDATORY, and he ended up deserting the army at great personal risk.

His faather was staunchly anti-Nazi.

Beware; the media will be drooling over this story (if they haven't already started; some of them have.) They conveniently choose to leave out a few pertinent details.

Hi, Mozie! Pope Benedict XVI!! It has been a long time since we had a pope without John or Paul in his name.

I read on the live thread that St. Benedict is the patron saint of Europe, which to my mind is why he chose the name.

I think this is a very good selection by the cardinals.

As an aside, while the MSM is pushing that he is cold and autocratic, the impression I have of him is someone who is humble and a bit shy. He had a very sweet smile on the balcony.

I read also that he is a towering intellect and speaks many languages. This is also a great thing.

May God bless Pope Benedict and give him a long and fruitful reign!

I'm sick of politics.....sick.

And it is clouding my judgement as to whether I should stay on FR.

Right now.....I could walk away and never look back.

Ok, we have this IMHO serious water issue lately.

Here is what they say about it in the paper today:

Fishy-smelling water draws some complaints

New Windsor – If you've been thinking there's something fishy about the water coming out of your tap lately, it's not just your imagination.

There's a definite smell to it, and it's not pleasant.

"It smells like dead salmon," said Mary Brown, whose family in Butterhill Estates has been coping with the smell for about a week and a half. "My daughters take showers and they come out smelling like fish.

"I'm afraid to even drink it," she said.

Town officials said there's nothing unhealthy about the water, but it definitely reeks. For the past two weeks, New Windsor has been drawing water from an emergency backup supply, the City of Newburgh's Brown's Pond reservoir.

The town's main water source, New York City's Catskill Aqueduct, was shut down April 4 after several days of heavy rain raised the water's turbidity – the amount of dirt and other impurities in the water.

The aqueduct reopened within a few days, but the turbidity was still too much for the town plant to handle, said John Egitto, the plant's operations engineer. So the town kept pumping water from Brown's Pond.

Egitto said a new carbon filtering system installed yesterday should take care of the odor problem in a day or two.

The town has used Brown's Pond before, but only for a few days at most. This time around, the length of time the town's been drawing the water and the growth of algae and weeds in the pond caused the water to develop "that fishy pond smell," Egitto said.

After installing the new filters, the town will flush the system in certain areas to remove the smelly water, he said.

Egitto said the town also will look at a more permanent solution to avoid the problem in the future.

The smell is so bad that after doing 3 loads of laundry the entire downstairs has the smell.

I am using bottled water for drinking and cooking and coffee and if it's still bad in the morning I am going to shower at work.

Well, Nita...having lived abroad in an underdeveloped county...You can always add chlorox to your water...let's see: a couple of T. per 5 gallons! That should be tasty, right??

Seriously you could do this, but more importantly..washing in your town's water as it is now should be okay, just don't ingest it or use it to brush your teeth.
