The Road Hole, No. 17 at St. Andrews, is as historic as any in the world.
The Lay of the Troubled Golfer
His eye was wild and his face was taut with anger and hate and rage,
And the things he muttered were much too strong for the ink of the printed page.
I found him there when the dusk came down, in his golf clothes still was he,
And his clubs were strewn around his feet as he told his grief to me:
"I'd an easy five for a seventy-nine -- in sight of the golden goal --
An easy five and I took an eight -- an eight on the eighteenth hole!
"I've dreamed my dreams of the `seventy men', and I've worked year after year,
I have vowed I would stand with the chosen few ere the end of my golf career;
I've cherished the thought of a seventy score, and the days have come and gone
And I've never been close to the golden goal my heart was set upon.
But today I stood on the eighteenth tee and counted that score of mine,
And my pulses raced with the thrill of joy -- I'd a five for seventy-nine!
"I can kick the ball from the eighteenth tee and get this hole in five,
But I took the wood and I tried to cross that ditch with a mighty drive --"
Let us end the quotes, it is best for all to imagine his language rich,
But he topped that ball, as we often do, and the pill stopped in the ditch.
His third was short and his fourth was bad and his fifth was off the line,
And he took an eight on the eighteenth hole with a five for a seventy-nine.
I gathered his clubs and I took his arm and alone in the locker room
I left him sitting upon the bench, a picture of grief and gloom;
And the last man came and took his shower and hurried upon his way,
But still he sat with his head bowed down like one with a mind astray,
And he counted his score card o'er and o'er and muttered this doleful whine:
"I took an eight on the eighteenth hole, with a five for a seventy-nine!"

Good Morning Amy! It's beautiful here in Maryland on this early Sunday AM- so we're heading downtown to see the cherry blossoms in DC. The kids have never seen them. The kids asked why we're skipping church and I told them we'd go say a prayer at the statue of Mr Lincon this morning. If we get a good picture I'll share it. Have a Great Day!

Let Your Balloon Go!
I will give thanks to You, O Lord, . . . and sing praises to Your name. -2 Samuel 22:50
The participants at a conference in a church in Nebraska were given helium-filled balloons and told to release them at a point in the worship service when they felt like expressing their joy. All through the service, balloons ascended one by one. But when the meeting was over, one-third of the people had not released their balloons. I wonder if they couldn't think of any reason to praise God.
King David would have let go of his balloon when singing his song of praise recorded in 2 Samuel 22. God had delivered him from all his enemies (v.1). Earlier, when hiding from King Saul in the rocky desert, he had learned that true security is found only in God (1 Samuel 23:25). David's heart had to "give thanks" and "sing praises," for the Lord had become David's rock, fortress, deliverer, stronghold, refuge, and Savior (2 Samuel 22:2-3,50).
What has the Lord been for you throughout your life? Your peace in a chaotic time? Your comforter amid loss? Your forgiver of a sinful choice? Your strength in a difficult task?
Take out a piece of paper and write down your list of thanks. Then take time to praise God for all He is and all He has done.
Let your balloon go! -Anne Cetas
From your heart give God your praise
For His blessings all your days;
Lift your voice to God above-
God of mercy, God of love. -Hess
Praise is the overflow of a joyful heart.

Morning, gals and guys! Thank
you, Amy, for the thank you. :) Thank you, Jack, for the very cute story you told for the "Don't Eat the Daisies"! AG, you are always so sweet to acknowledge the daily poems and welcome graphics. :) Lonestar, the flower garden for Bob's cute flower poem the other day is not mine - wish it was, but I'm a lazy gardener - my yard is mostly all grass, ground cover, shrubs and trees, and brick pavers and curbs. Hey, some of the trees and shrubs make pretty, sweet-smelling blooms in the spring though. :)
Happy Sunday to all!

When I Linger in His Presence
Sometimes when shadows linger
And darkness veils the night
When pain obscures my vision
And things arent going right.
When the world around me crumbles
And a friend cannot be found
When tomorrow holds no promise
And life has got me down.
When I am at my lowest
And I can bear no more
I cry to Him in anguish
He greets me at the door.
He gently whispers to me
My soul has found release
My troubles start to perish
My worries seem to cease.
The hardships I have known
Seem to vanish with the wind
When I seek His loving Spirit
And I humbly let Him in.
All the turmoil that surrounds me
Seems to fade like shifting sand
When I linger in His presence
And He gently takes my hand.

I do not golf, as the one and only time I tried, I took out power over a small area.
