It was -33 just yesterday and with the wind chill it was more like -45
I originally got that tank because it was a good size and it had a filter. I had heard that filtered tank don't need the water changed as often. But I had to take the filter out because it was causing so many bubbles that it covered the surface and he couldn't get air. Plus he didn't like the currents. He seemed happier once I turned the filter off.
Are his tail and fins the same way as you got him, nice and healthy? If not, it could be fungus.
Wow, that is a really nice tank. When I first got mine, I gave the flakes. I now only give the pellets, 4 a day. And they do great. There have been days that they just won't eat, I have no idea why.
Wow -- no wonder you're complaining about the cold!!
They haven't changed. When I got him, it looked like his body was white and he had purple and white in his fins. But after I turned the light on in the tank, I realized that it's not that he is white - he doesn't have color on his body and his fins are clear on the ends. He has purple on the part of his fins that attach to his body. They are whole, so it's not fin rot. The lack of color worried me, so I read more on that, and some bettas just don't have color.
How big are your betta tanks?
LOL!!!
Take it back, Tulip, and tell them about it. Ask them to exchange him for another one... color one.
LOL, 2 years ago, I knew nothing about betta's
:-D
Not as big as yours. And I don't have filters, they say they are good to have. They are air breathers, and will get bubbles at the top. Pet store told me they are not jumpers....first time I scooped up the one fish with the net, he jumped right out!
LOL, very funny
Nah, I'll keep him. I think I'm already attached to the little guy. LOL! I wouldn't want him to go from playing in the 2 gal. tank to sitting in a small cup on the shelf at Walmart again. Plus he is entertaining. I think he watches me more than I watch him. LOL!
We all get troubles when it gets that cold. Oh man.
I had read that they can jump. There was a lady in the store that told me how her betta jumped out of its bowl and they didn't realize it until it was too late.
OK. You have guarantee for a few days, so you can get another one free of charge in case he dies. Hopefully, he'll be OK.
I had the aquarium going for over 24 hours before I put him in the tank. Plus I have a thermometer in it and it stays at a constant 72 degrees (which is what I keep my apartment at). Winston likes to swim all over the tank. Sometimes he'll swim up and down around the thermometer like its a game. He also likes to rest on the top leaves of the plant in the tank. Today, he was flaring his fins and bumping his nose into the side of the tank. I thought that was odd, but I realized he was attacking his reflection. LOL!
