A December Day
That's no December sky!
Surely 'tis June
Holds now her state on high
Queen of the noon.
Only the tree-tops bare
Crowning the hill,
Clear-cut in perfect air,
Warn us that still
Winter, the aged chief,
Mighty in power,
Exiles the tender leaf,
Exiles the flower.

The Place Of Going Forth
Read: Micah 5:1-4
Bethlehem . . . , out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel. Micah 5:2
Bible In One Year: Zechariah 1-4; Revelation 18
A lot of attention was suddenly focused on the small town of Bethlehem. Jews from many parts of the world came to be counted in a census. Mary and Joseph traveled there from Nazareth. Shepherds came from the fields to see the Baby lying in a manger (Luke 2:15-16) after a multitude of angels had come to announce, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (vv.13-14).
Every Christmas, in our imagination, we go to Bethlehem to celebrate Jesus' birth. But we cannot stay there; we must leave. The angels returned to heaven. Mary and Joseph went to Jerusalem, then sought safety in Egypt.
The shepherds' exit gives a clear message to us. They left the stable and told everyone about the holy Child. "And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds" (v.18).
It's appropriate for us to do the same. Micah prophesied that from Bethlehem would go forth a Ruler of Israel, the eternal Maker of the world, who had come to save mankind from sin (Micah 5:2). This season, let's join those who have gone forth from their visits to Bethlehem to proclaim the good news of Christ, who came to save us. Dave Egner
Go tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere
Go tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born! Traditional
The gospel is one gift you can keep and still pass on to others.

Bounty
The Winter morning brightly shows through threadbare trees its light,
And gives sly hint of playfulness that happens in the night.
For those who went to bed amidst the gloom of somber sky,
A bright and cheerful morning penetrates the shuttered eye.
Awake at last, and squinting at the prospects of the day,
The shuttered soul inside of us is given now to pray,
Our Providence is generous in bounty for our needs,
But we must prove our mettle in the harvesting of seeds.

Every year at just this time,
In cold and dark December,
Families around the world
All gather to remember,
With presents and with parties,
With feasting and with fun,
Customs and traditions
for people old and young.

Morning Amy.
Words
I set out to write a rhyme,
But I could find no words.
I thought of trees and flowers,
Blue skies and chirping birds.
I thought of horses running,
Of rivers flowing free.
I thought of mountains standing,
But words won't come to me.
I thought of all the wonders,
Throughout Creation's span.
But still the words are missing,
Maybe they're in this can.
A can of words just sitting,
No opener I find.
I know I left it somewhere,
Don't see it, am I blind.
I sure need to find some words,
A book full would be fine.
I'll check for some on E Bay,
And buy some words On Line.

A fruitcake came one day
And I sent it on its way.
The next day, then,
It was back again,
But here it cannot stay.
I sent it to one brother,
Who sent it to another.
It eventually
Came back to me,
In a package from my mother.
I sent it to a friend --
At least, he was 'til then.
He sent it back
With a caustic crack
And we never spoke again.
I sent it to my boss
And signed it "Santa Claus."
My name he guessed
And readdressed
That spice-baked albatross.
I sent it to a client,
Who proved to be defiant:
It seems the space
In his office place
Is fruitcake noncompliant.
I picked someone at random
In hopes that he could stand 'em.
It was returned:
Somehow he'd learned
I was the Fruitcake Phantom.
If a fruitcake comes today,
I think I'll let it stay.
It's crystal clear
Its place is here --
And I must move away.
