Small Strands

There’s something about string, and yarn, that binds a woman’s life.
Perhaps an instinctive bond that helps to get us through the strife.
What seems a passing fancy when you’re just a little girl,
May still excite you even though your hair has turned to pearl.

We’re bound to one another with small strands which we could snap,
Except they lead us to a source of strength that we can tap.
They bind a little girl into a net of learning ways,
To make things that express her love, and brighten up her days.

She’s caught up in the magic that the older woman spins,
Until she finds she’s stuck behind a forest of needles and pins.
Her own defensive fortress that will shield her from concern,
With a beneficial hobby that will still be fun to learn.

Oh, for the peace that picture and poem engendered...

I am neither at peace nor at any sort of calm at the moment.

Sorry.

They

I wonder if they’re talking,
I wonder what they say.
I wonder what they’re thinking,
I wonder if they pray.

Do they have hopes? Do they have dreams? Do they think like we do?
Or are they merely programmed, with actions old not new.

I know they talk, I hear them,
I know not, what they say.
I know they think, I see it,
I know, I’ll know, someday.

They solve problems, love, and morn. But not like you and me.
Their thoughts are much less cluttered, more natural, and free.

Good evening, Jacqui.

We've missed you. Hope you are having a nice fall.

Why not write a poem for us? That might have a calming affect. I can't write, but reading these poems relaxes me.

Thank you for your contributions to Amy's Place.

As always, you are welcome. :-)

And WHAT on earth are you doing up at this hour?

Cherished Friends

God must have known there would be times
We'd need a word of cheer
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.
He must have known we'd need to share
The joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.
I think he knew our troubled hearts
Would sometimes throb with pain
At trials and misfortunes
Or some goals we can't attain.
He knew we'd need the comfort
Of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
To make a fresh, new start.
He knew we'd need companionship
Unselfish...lasting...true,
And so God answered the heart's great need
With CHERISHED FRIENDS....like you..

"And WHAT on earth are you doing up at this hour?"

LOL

My first thought when I saw you on My Comments Page was "What is Lori doing up this early?"

I slept for almost 5 hours, so I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. :)

Sometimes you can get a lot done when it is peaceful and quiet at this time of night. The problem is, by about 2 PM I am ready to call it a day. LOL

I decided to use this quiet time to do some research on my next post for the Finest thread (shhhhh.....don't tell anyone, but it is going to be Idaho).

If it didn't snow there, I would consider moving to Idaho. I haven't seen very much of Idaho; just drove through on our way home from Yellowstone.

I will be looking forward to your Finest Thread. It will give me a chance to see what side trips we should have taken. :)

I have thought that also. In fact, I have relatives who live in Sandpoint. They are former Californians who finally had enough and relocated there. Seems that many Californians have had the same idea. But I am with you. The winters are too harsh and long, especially in the northern part of the state, which is where I would like to live. I have decided that Arizona or New Mexico's winters would be more to my liking. :-)

I am beginning to get sleepy. Guess I will go back to bed and see if I can get some more sleep before the sun comes up. See ya!

Sent Down

Read: Philippians 2:5-11

Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. —1 Peter 5:6

Bible In One Year: Ecclesiastes 7-9; 2 Corinthians 13

A sportswriter described former major league baseball player and manager Don Baylor as a person who always remembered how it felt to be "sent down" to the minor leagues. When one of his players had to be demoted, he would always meet with him to explain the decision. A team owner said of Baylor, "He has been through a lot of life lessons he can share with the players." It makes a big difference when the manager knows how a player feels.

It's always humbling to be reduced in rank, privilege, or responsibility. But these things may come as part of God's training in our lives. The apostle Peter wrote, "'God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time" (1 Peter 5:5-6).

The apostle Paul described Jesus as our example of humble submission to God. He was sent down from heaven to become a man—a "bondservant" who was obedient to the point of dying on the cross for our sins (Philippians 2:6-8).

Humility and submission to God are not signs of weakness but evidence of Christlike power and character. We can receive courage and strength from Jesus Himself, who knows how it feels to be "sent down." —David McCasland

Teach me to do the humble task
The very best I can,
And not to look for greater calls,
Which may oppose Thy plan. —Bernheisel
