Here's a poem we read in school today. It reminded me so much of my little boy and I got such a kick out of it.
The Land of Story Books
Robert Louis Stevenson
At evening when the lamp is lit,
Around the fire my parents sit;
They sit at home and talk and sing,
And do not play at anything.
Now, with my little gun, I crawl
All in the dark along the wall,
And follow round the forest track
Away behind the sofa back.
There, in the night, where none can spy,
All in my hunter's camp I lie,
And play at books that I have read
Till it is time to go to bed.
These are the hills, these are the woods,
These are my starry solitudes;
And there the river by whose brink
The roaring lions come to drink.
I see the others far away
As if in firelit camp they lay,
And I, like to an Indian scout,
Around their party prowled about.
So when my nurse comes in for me,
Home I return across the sea,
And go to bed with backward looks
At my dear land of Story-books.
To: The Mayor
"I went outside to find a friend
But could not find one there;
I went outside to be a friend,
And friends were everywhere!
Thank you, Mayor, for the words of wisdom this morning!
Have a great day, Friend!!

OK, first quilt block going up. I've named this one George. :) This is a civil war reproduction fabric. The little dots inside the balls are stars.

Did your son have a big imagination? Jonah is always in orbit around some other planet. Everyone who meets him says he has an amazing imagination. Uh, yeah, that's a minimal way to think of it. He's a wild and crazy boy. That poem made me laugh, thinking about him. I'm going to print it out and put it in his scrapbook.
I'll post another tomorrow. It made me think of my daughter.
God bless you Amy.
To: SpookBrat
My son was always very conservative. (Must take after his parents). He was very quiet and enjoyed building with legos.
Now Marissa, my grand-niece who we are raising, has a vivid imagination. She can tell you about going places she has never been. She tells us about going to the beach and seeing a share, a whale and a dolphin. Then she may throw in something about the shark biting someone.
I hope this story-telling is good because I haven't tried to stop it. :)

Talking about your new motto:
When you wake in middle of night and can't get back to sleep --
visit FReeRepublic, as well as FReepers marching around their keyboards in their pajamas --
Dr. Dentons, with the trapdoor in the rear, sure beats the alternative:
(I have no idea what she is doing -- shellacking a chair?)

Well, since the remnants of Ivan are passing through our neck of the woods as we type, the only rhyme that comes to mine is: "Blow. blow. Seminole wind. Blow like you're never gonna blow again." From John Anderson's song.

That's cute. I pinged you to a post at The Finest on the 11th, hope you didn't miss that one Spooky. :)

(((hugs))) I'll have to go back and do a search and find it. I am hardly around any more and have no business spending so much time on the computer two days in a row. I missed my good friends so I could stay away any longer.
Are you getting high winds and rain?
