Patience
They join me in the cold duck blind,
Or maybe in my boat.
They watch the sky so patiently,
Or watch the decoys float.
They sit so still and quietly,
As if theyre made of stone.
They are my buddies and my friends,
I never feel alone.
They look at me, I fire the shot,
They wait for my command.
The chosen one dives in to fetch,
Returns it to my hand.
They then resume their patient wait,
Each hoping for a turn.
They like this more than even I,
So much from them, I learn.

Morning, evening, whatever, y'all!
We have so many great poets on this board, do we not?
I suggest an FR anthology... half the profits to go to FR, half to George W Bush's re-election. Anyone?

Hey .... Jacqui.
We've missed you!!! How have you been?
I've been busy. A new puppy and my 4 1/2 year old great niece has moved in with us. The niece started pre-school this week. She and I are both excited.
The puppy is a 3 1/2 month old yellow lab. His name is Louie/Max. He is mostly an outside dog but he does come in 2 or 3 times every day. Long enough to find a paper towel to tear into strips. I usually solve the problem by sending both him and the niece outside.
Many of our regulars have been enjoying the summer. Between vacations, outdoor fun and the presidential campaigns, things have been pretty quiet here.
The FR anthology sounds like a great idea but I have no poetic talent. I'm just here for the ride.
I hope you have been having a wonderful summer (winter?) or whatever.

Kittens! Kittens!
Kittens kittens everywhere
Kittens chewing on my hair
Kittens climbing up my jeans
Kittens hanging from the screens
There's a kitten on each shoulder
Will they do this when they're older?
Kittens fighting on the chairs
Kittens tumbling down the stairs
There's a kitten on my head
There's a kitten in the bread!
There's a kitten in my shoe
I don't believe we just have two!

Poem for New Puppy Owners
Don't smell crotches, don't eat plants,
Don't steal food or underpants.
Don't eat my socks; don't grab my hair...
DON'T RIP THE STUFFING FROM THAT CHAIR!!
Don't eat those peas, don't touch that bush,
Don't chew my shoes, what IS this, mush!?!
Eat your cookies, drink your drink,
Outta the toilet! Outta the sink!
AWAY FROM THE LITTER BOX, IT'S FOR THE CAT!
(and must you kiss me after that!?!)
Raising a puppy is not for the lazy,
Those rugrats are funny, but also quite crazy.
Don't despair through the toil and the strife.
"Cause after three years you'll get back your life!
So lets go for walkies, so you can do your "thing"
And maybe I'll get back my diamond ring!

Twice Is Once Too Many
Read: James 3:1-12
With [our tongue] we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men. James 3:9
Bible In One Year: Psalms 105-106; 1 Corinthians 3
When I begin to grade the papers from the students in my college freshman writing class, I'm rather lenient about correcting their mistakes, hoping I won't see the same errors again.
But when the next paper contains the identical mistakes, I begin to get a little irritated. I expect the students to learn from their errors and avoid them the next time. Usually, though, it doesn't quite work that way.
Sounds like our Christian life. The Lord patiently reminds us through the Holy Spirit's presence, for example, that we shouldn't say negative things about others. He tells us to be kind and compassionate instead of fault-finding and vindictive (Ephesians 4:31-32). But we sometimes slip back into our old habit of letting both "fresh" and "bitter" words come from our lips in our conversations about others (James 3:8-12).
With my students, I go back to the basics to erase old habits. We train. We review. We practice. We eliminate the errors.
The Lord patiently continues to work with us about the way we speak of other people. As we listen to His training, learn from our mistakes, and depend on His power, we'll grow and change. Dave Branon
To be like Jesusthat's our goal,
Though it doesn't happen fast;
We trust the SpiritHe's our Guide,
Till we're glorified at last. Branon

No, nothing special. This weather is amazing here. We had rain yesterday for a good part of the day. When we left for Bally's a little after 5 a.m., it was 75 degrees and lightning in the area. We left Bally's around 7:25 and it was raining a little and 67 degrees. We're supposed to get up to the low 80's today I think, and it's sprinkling outside now. Usually we are hitting 100 or close to it every day this time of the year.
I'm loving it!
Have a great day, Amy! :^D
