Great description of your problem. Consider moving to Huntsville Alabama when you have the chance. There are lots of high tech jobs, NASA, and Fortune 500 companies here. The cost of living is very reasonable.

Bank account is always empty, and the costs of living here prevent me from getting ahead, saving some money, and replensishing my account.

Geez. You mean Gloria didn't come through? Well I never! Some people are so ... ... unreliable - yeh, that's it - unreliable.

No decent public transportation. Stinking high taxes of all sorts, especially property taxes. High cost of living. Exorbitant utility rates. Government gives monopolies to certain companies (Cablevision, Lilco, etc), thereby preventing competition and lower prices. Need a car to go everywhere and anywhere (which is not a bad thing in itself, a car is quite convenient, but the costs of gas, insurance and occasional repairs are killing me).

Your paragraph clearly defines the county I live in. Probably others, as well. Liberal BS has taken a stranglehold over many cities. And yes.................it DOES suck.

AUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Unless one is earning close to six figures, or a lottery winner, it is damn near impossible to live here. If anyone is thinking of moving here...dont! Damn Long Island economics is DETERMINED to drive me further into poverty. It isnt enough that I'm already out of money, local economics demands an extra quart of my blood.

I agree. That's why I moved to CT. But now CT sucks, and I have 8 more years on my sentence...

Hi lowbridge.

I love Long Island. I moved away twice, and both times, I moved back.

My last move was to Las Vegas. Sure, the cost of living is great there. I was making my months rent in about 3/5 of a week. That means, in 3 working days, I made my month's rent for a 2 br. Apt.

However, I would rather pay a little more in rent and taxes and be where I want to be than pay dirt cheap prices. And live in a desert.

I love Long Island. I don't think I will move again.

Billy

Ah, Lawn Guyland. Highest property taxes in the nation, incompetant politicos of all parties, tiny salt box cottages that sell fo $500K, mediocre and worse schools (though still superior to anything in Florida or Washington) and a declining standard of living.

However, I wouldn't trade my wonderful childhood in Malverne for all the world. For all of its faults, LI (at least the real "towns" in Nassau and the North Shore) is still superior to the endless Wal Marts, Applebees and gated communities that dominate the faceless and souless "sunbelt."

LI was great until I was 12. Then I started sneaking off to the City as much as possible.

BTW: Interesting this thread came up today, as I went out on a date with a girl from "Matzoh Pizza" (Massepequa for all you hicks from Suffolk County) last night.

At age 5, I woke up with a knife at my throat there.

I later moved, take the hint!

I've never been there, but one or two of the most objectionable people I've ever had the misfortune to meet are from Long Island.

Thankyou for the very best laugh I have had all day. (And it's 5pm here on the east coast of Australia...)

Cheers,
KaJac.

P.S. Whatever you do, DON'T move to Connecticut. It's even worse.

Every revolution ALWAYS begins with a small fed up minority. At some point the insanity in New York will come to an end when all the corporations move out to states and countries with lower tax rates and we are left with a tax base that couldn't even support corrupt politicians. At that point, when there is no more money to bribe the masses with welfare programs and where there is no money to pay for them, then we may see a change in policies and an opportunity for Republicans to take over.

The Liberals of course, will have moved to infest other states (New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine) with their failed ideas. Maybe they will buy beach front property in Saudi Arabia and build a Miami on the Arabian Sea. Condo commies and all.

Ya'll lisen. I've got news for you 'uns. All that car repair and cost of living stuff is LIFE, and you ain't gonna escape it even back here in the boonies where me and the possums, the coyotes, the wild turkeys, the deer, the squirrels, and the chipmunks live. It IS a quieter life, but unless I want to make a bigger garden, keep a flock of chickens for eggs, hogs for bacon, cattle for beef and a herd of goats, grind my own corn and wheat AND continue cutting the firewood we cut and stack for the winter as usual; we gonna have grocery bills and all other kinds of bills unless we want to drop hospital insurance and a bunch of other stuff that sort of keeps us being responsible, taxpaying citizens of the USA.

What do you do for a living? Do you really think you have no other options but to stay in your situation for 5 to 10 more years? I find that hard to believe!
