Welcome to Amy's Place.

I watched the memorial services this morning. I thought that Nancy looked very fragile but she seemed at peace. I think she is happy that his suffering is over. I'm sure the last few years have been especially tough on her.

Hope you stop by again. Have a nice evening.

In the company of wolves

when the moon crests the hills
giving each tree a black pool-shadow
the wolves wade in the forest
wet themselves in the darkness
shake it from their fur
in clearings of light

their eyes are stars
their teeth comets their tails
galaxies they are
constellations of the night
they roam the universe

they run as Diana's companions
laugh as her silver arrows
and their iron teeth
harvest the hunt's bounty
they hide in her moon
cloud around her with breath

they are brave of soul
clear of eye and mind
they are strong of jaw
they are loyal-kind
they are keen to scent
quick to 'fend their kin
they are hot of blood
they are slow to sin

grey brown white black blonde
ear tail paw claw tongue
they play as a pack and they
melt together so that one
is part of all and all
become one

they prance through the forest
they track through the sky
they are noble in friendship
and single in thought
I join them in flight
I run in the company
of wolves

Good morning, Jacqui.

How was your Tuesday? (Or is it just getting started?) I spent a lot of time napping and watching TV today.

Sweet Potato-Bacon Biscuits
Recipe courtesy Emeril Lagasse, 2003

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 stick cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 cup mashed cooked sweet potatoes, cooled
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
5 slices cooked bacon, drained and crumbled
3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease a large baking sheet and set aside.
In a bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the butter and work in with a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a bowl, whip the sweet potatoes with the brown sugar until very smooth. Add to the flour mixture and mix in lightly but thoroughly with your fingers. Add 3/4 cup of the buttermilk and the bacon and gently work to make a smooth dough, slightly sticky, being careful not to overwork and adding more liquid as needed 1 teaspoon at a time.

Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and pat out into a large rectangle about 1/2-inch thick. Cut into 10 large biscuits and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden brown and risen, 15 to 18 minutes.

Remove from the oven and serve hot with butter.

My Tuesday is about halfway through. 4pm here. Ooops, sorry about the "good morning" business... getting ahead of myself there...

The air has a slight chill to it - not too bad, considering it's now officially winter here. (I call it WINO - Winter In Name Only - lol!!!)

I hope Nancy finds happiness.

America is a great nation and it takes a lot of work to keep her that way. Reagan was a fighter and we must keep fighters at the helm.

Peacemakers

Read: 1 Samuel 25:14-35

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. —Matthew 5:9

Bible In One Year: 2 Chronicles 30-31; John 18:1-18

Abigail was a remarkable woman! She was a true peacemaker whose courage spared the future king of Israel from committing a terrible sin. Here's her story:

David had been forced to live in the countryside to escape King Saul's jealous wrath. A group of about 600 men and their families had gathered around him. For several months they camped near Carmel where the flocks of Nabal (Abigail's husband) were grazing. David's men had helped Nabal's shepherds protect the sheep from robbers. Now the shearing time had come, and David sent messengers to request some compensation from Nabal, who was a wealthy man. But he refused and treated David's men with disdain.

In anger David rashly decided to kill Nabal and all the men in his household. When Abigail heard what had happened, she quickly gathered a large supply of food, intercepted David and his fighting men, and humbly apologized for her husband's surly behavior. David immediately realized that she had prevented him from carrying out a vengeful decision, and he praised God (1 Samuel 25:32).

Are we as quick to resolve a conflict? Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9). —Herb Vander Lugt

How blest are those who persevere
To bring a conflict to an end;
And if the peace of Christ takes hold,
An enemy becomes a friend. —D. De Haan

You can be a peacemaker if you have God's peace in your heart.

You must be very careful on the ScienceDiet. It can be dangerous.

Love your graphic, but I thought it only worked for cats.

Oh, it wasn't just wedding dates, it was dates in general. I have a brother 1-3-61, and a sister 5-22-65, then there is less numerical rythym after them (there are 6 children).

Carolyn Arends lyrics
Seize the Day

I know a girl who was schooled in Manhattan
She reads dusty books and learns phrases in Latin
She is an author or maybe a poet
A genius but its just this world doesn't know it
She works on her novel most every day If you laugh she will say

Seize the day Seize whatever you can
Cause life slips away just like hourglass sand
Seize the day pray for grace from God's hand
That nothin' will stand in your way Seize the day
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai

Well I know a doctor A fine young physician
Left his six figure job for a mission position
He's healin' the sick in an African clinic
He works in the dirt and writes home to the cynics
He says we work through the night almost every day
As we watch the sun rise we can say

Seize the day Seize whatever you can
Cause life slips away just like hourglass sand
Seize the day pray for grace from God's hand
That nothin will stand in your way Seize the day
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai

Well I know a man who's been doin' some thinkin'
He's as bitter and cold as the whisky he's drinkin'
He's talkin' bout fear 'bout chances not taken
If you listen to him you can hear his heart breakin'
He says "One day you're a boy The next day you're dead
I wish way back when someone had said..."

Seize the day Seize whatever you can
Cause life slips away just like hourglass sand
Seize the day pray for grace from God's hand
That nothin' will stand in your way Seize the day
Lai de Dai Dai Lai de Dai Dai Lai de Dai Dai-e-i

Well one thing I've noticed wherever I wander
Everyone's got a dream he can follow or squander
You can do what you will with the days you are given
I'm tryin' to spend mine on the business of livin'
So I'm singin' my songs off of any old stage
You can laugh if you want He'll still say

Seize the day Seize whatever you can
Cause life slips away just like hourglass sand
Seize the day pray for grace from God's hand
That nothin' will stand in your way Seize the day
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai
Lai de dai de dai Lai de dai de dai da dai
