Young to Ride

This may look like it’s posed, a mite,
But it’s been done before.
These two have a good friendship,
If one is keeping score.

He is a little young to ride,
She is content to wait.
One day she’ll get to climb aboard,
And they’ll go out the gate.

And where they’ll go from that fine day,
The world is open wide.
They both have legs that need to stretch,
Across the countryside.

"Borders"

Why does he want this piece? Why does he stare like this?
Are you sure he will not bite me? Come on, please tell me, Sis.

Oh, brother mine, you are divine! You have no need to fear.
He looks to see if you’ll compete. He knows my food is near.
I feed him every day, you know. I do not eat his food.
The way you hold it near your mouth, why, don’t you know that’s rude?

I think it’s rude of him to stare, I’m sure he knows I’m scared.
I like him better on the lake. Up close, I’m unprepared.
I don’t think I can be his friend, nor can I trust in him.
He knows he cannot run on land. I know I cannot swim.

Just hold the cake out to him. He will not bite your hand.
He shows his faith and trust in you to come this close to land.

HERSHEY'S KISSES Birthday Cake

2 cups sugar
1-3/4 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa or HERSHEY'S Dutch Processed Cocoa
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING (recipe follows)
HERSHEY'S KISSES brand chocolates

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans or one 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

2. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.

3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes for round pans, 35 to 40 minutes for rectangular pan or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.

4. Frost with VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING. Remove wrappers from HERSHEY'S KISSES brand chocolates. Garnish top and sides of cake with HERSHEY'S KISSES brand chocolates. 10 to 12 servings.


VANILLA BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons milk
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Beat butter in large bowl until creamy. Gradually add about half of the powdered sugar, beating well. Slowly beat in milk and vanilla. Gradually add remaining powdered sugar, beating until smooth. Add additional milk, if necessary, until frosting is spreading consistency. About 2-1/3 cups frosting.
