"Potential"
It has occurred to me that there is a psychology to writing, just as a sense of timing is essential to good comedy.
The psychology of how ordinary people might react, in rather extraordinary social circumstances, seemed like a rich field for exploration.
The problem was, nowhere on Earth could this Outlandish situation develop. But as an avid Science Fiction reader, I am not limited in my thinking to only one planet.
But it is not a psychology text, or even sociology. One may learn something unusual about anatomy perhaps, but the emphasis is on what people might be like, on a very strange world. I concluded they would be like ... people.
Very nice people, for the most part. Very friendly people ...
