Here is the pic after I ran it through PhotoDeluxe ...

This flag (in Laredo, Texas) was completed Sunday May 26,
2002, just in time for Memorial Day. It is the tallest flagpole
in the United States. It is 308 feet tall, weighs 52 tons, and
flies a 100-foot by 50-foot flag. It cost $300,000, which was
paid for by The Laredo National Bank.

Yeah, that looks better ...

Thanks for the ping, Spatzie.

Hookman sent me freepmail this morning but I didn't get to it right away. Also, I wanted to find something special for him.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Click clowns.

Here comes the birthday clown
with balloons and a cake
And there's a candle in his hand
for goodness sake

He's ready to celebrate
with lots of good cheer
He knows it's your birthday
that's why he is here

So let's have fun
and celebrate your day
Put the candles on the cake
and let's sing happy birthday

Happy Birthday, Hookman!!!

Hey onyx -- how did I wander on to this thread? A surf and skateboard-free thread? Not even Nervous Norvus. The Comets were one rocking band for sure. Some nice guitar licks and a twirling stand-up bass. "Earth Angel" was pretty far back near the creation, too -- you can still visit the house where it was recorded in South Central LA, if you are so inclined (I was -- and it's not far from the house where Richard Berry of the original "Louie Louie" fame lived, or for that matter the hotel where Sam Cooke was murdered.) Love that early rock history. Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps bump.

Hi Spooky,

Yes, I had the day off. Actually, I had Easter weekend off.

Hope you had a good Easter weekend.

Hey, it's Honolulu Lulu herself. And her board is losing wax!! I wonder if Bill Haley could surf? Has that question ever been asked?

What's this? GOOD!

Can't help but bring him up today. But now it's not *just* that dark day of a tragic event, but something to celebrate, too.

I don't think Jan would mind a bit.

I expect his guitar would have shorted out if he'd tried. It's cool having beach bugs around too, and I'll happily admit that I have a lot more fun in the surf in a kayak than on a 'board. Eskimo roll, here we come!

Allyson has discovered Shakespeare and this is one of her favorites.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
from Act 5, Scene 1

More strange than true: I never may believe
These antique fables, nor these fairy toys.
Lovers and madmen have such seething brains,
Such shaping fantasies, that apprehend
More than cool reason ever comprehends.
The lunatic, the lover and the poet
Are of imagination all compact:
One sees more devils than vast hell can hold,
That is, the madman: the lover, all as frantic,
Sees Helen's beauty in a brow of Egypt:
The poet's eye, in fine frenzy rolling,
Doth glance from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven;
And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet's pen
Turns them to shapes and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.
Such tricks hath strong imagination,
That if it would but apprehend some joy,
It comprehends some bringer of that joy;
Or in the night, imagining some fear,
How easy is a bush supposed a bear!

Howdy ! Just to (hopefully) clarify that post ...

Post #34 was a 'raw' pic of that Flag in post #62. The pic in #34 that I posted
was SO dark, I didn't want it to stay so I had it removed.

this is one of my favorite local clowns!

See that top right pic in #53? That clown right behind the car with the ceegar look at all familiar?

International Clown Hall of Fame
Inductees for 1989

RICHARD "RED" SKELTON

(1923 - deceased)

Richard "Red" Skelton was born in Vincennes, Indiana. His father, who died two months before his birth was a clown with the Hagenbeck & Wallace Circus. Before "Red" was sixteen, he had also clowned in this same show, and acted, sang, or did stand up comedy in medicine shows, minstrel shows, and on board a river showboat. He entered vaudeville, and made it to Broadway in 1936. This limber legged, rubber faced award winning comedian starred in at least 23 movies, and had his own radio and television shows. During his television career, millions of people saw his clown character "Freddy the Freeloader" on a weekly basis. His artistry is still seen as a performer, a composer, and a painter. His most endearing paintings are of clowns.

Thanks for clarifying that Meek.

I'll have to try and get a good pic of a couple of flags we have near me. One's over a Dodge's gas station, and the other is a car dealer. They are huge. They aren't high up, just real big. AFAIK the one over the gas station was there long before 9-11. I've been meaning to get together a thread called "Flyover Country" or perhaps "Silent Majority" with a bunch of pics from around town to show that America is still about God, Family, & Country. This weekend should be real pretty so I'll try and do that and post Sunday afternoon.
