APA: We'd Like to Teach the World to Swing...
Family Research Council ^ | July 8, 2019 | Tony Perkins and FRC senior writers

Posted on 07/08/2019 8:38:48 PM PDT by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

Just when you think you've heard it all, the American Psychological Association (APA) decides this: Monogamy is the new bigotry. That's right. According to the supposed "mental health experts," open marriages are the tolerant approach to intimacy. And they've launched a task force to prove it to the world.

According to the APA's official description of this initiative, "Finding love and/or sexual intimacy is a central part of most people's life experience. However, the ability to engage in desired intimacy without social and medical stigmatization is not a liberty for all." People who practice "consensual non-monogamy," as they call it, are unduly "marginalized," and it's time, the APA argues, to promote "awareness and inclusivity" for people who practice "polyamory, open relationships, swinging, relationship anarchy and other types of ethical, non-monogamous relationships."

Well, the APA may call these open relationships "ethical," but the American people sure don't. In Gallup's latest survey on moral acceptability, it's hard to find a behavior more universally frowned upon than adultery or polygamy. Only nine percent of the country agrees with the APA that fidelity is somehow narrow-minded or passé. The multiple-spouse relationship has mildly more support at 18 percent.

Are they the ones who removed homosexuality from the DSM under threats of violence, or was that the other APA?

Other than people who are actually chemically unbalanced and need medication, I would strongly recommend that NO ONE get near these people, nor let anyone they love do the same. For starters, they are NOT your friends, and you also do not know where that information will go - and even if they swear to protect the information, laws can change and judges can subpoena whatever they want.

It is, BY FAR, the best course to simply NOT create any records, as only then can your privacy be protected.

Beyond that, I taught my kids if ANY ADULT, teacher, ‘guidance counselor’, social worker, etc. starts asking questions, just tell them you’re fine, your family is fine, you’re not spanked, and, no, there are no guns in the house, even if it means they have to lie. Given the army of people in this country who think the WORST ENEMY of kids are their own parents, kids now MUST learn to lie, when necessary - no one other than close family can be trusted.

Yup, 1973. When they removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses not due to sound science, but due to political and social pressure. And who says the right is anti-science ?

And I bet people thought they only wanted to declare homosexuality as normal to stop the homophobia.

American Pinhead Association. I'm absolutely appalled at what's happened to psychiatry as a branch of medicine. So many (probably the majority) of psychiatrists don't even bother counseling patients anymore. They have nurse practitioners, social workers, etc. to do that. They just prescribe and titrate medications, and collect money. It's really unethical in my view, especially considering how horrible mental health issues are for the patients and those who love them.

For the record, open marriages aren't marriages. Just sayin..

I guess the good news is that I can cite this when a Progressive Christian cites the APA’s change of heart a generation ago about homosexuality.

I suppose parades, more sex education classes for the kiddies, family health care expansion, is on it’s way. But we knew all that. Especially with all those new families with lots of wives.

“relationship anarchy”?!?? What the hell? Legitimizing people treating other people badly. Absolutely astounding. Civil, sane society is completely off the rails. The “experts” want it this way. What the hell is their end game? Never mind, I know - the apocalyptic societies of the movies and sci-fi novels.

People chemically unbalanced can’t get neurotropic meds from a psychologist. That requires a medically degreed psychiatrist.

Good point, I often confuse the two, but yes, I do know that a psychiatrist is an MD and deals with meds, while the rest of the bunch are basically hand-wavers.

The APA is one of the most destructive influences in the country. Every crazy social theory you ever heard of comes from the and their masters, the brain butchers.

APA went off the rails in the early 70’s...

From https://www.resoundingbooks.org/blog/content/full.php?y=2016&m=3&d=3

...French philosophy was not the only thing European that fascinated Hall. He was attracted to theories on the racial memory of Das Volk, became an admirer of German authoritarianism, developed a taste for Social Darwinism, was an early proponent of selective breeding and forced sterilization of undesirables, and came to believe that excessive individualism was bad for the U.S. Had he lived a few years longer he could have seen similar pseudo-scientific theories of racial eugenics, romanticism, social efficiency, and anti-intellectualism acted out on a national stage.

While Hall’s beliefs make him sound like a kook, he was no isolated nut; he was a hugely influential character and central to the development of psychology and educational theory in the U.S.

He served as Professor of Psychology and Pedagogics at Johns Hopkins University (1882-88), was president of Clark University (1889-1920), became the first president of the American Psychological Association in 1892, and was a featured NEA speaker throughout the early 1900s. Hall and his students, Henry Goddard and Lewis Terman, collaborated with Edward Thorndike in establishing the field of educational psychology along Wundtian lines.

Wilhelm Wundt (1832-1920) established Europe’s first experimental psychology laboratory at the University of Leipzig in 1878.

Considered the founder of structural psychology, he personally trained many of the world’s first psychologists. Wundt believed people are animals “devoid of spirit and self-determinism”[3]; his work inspired the Behaviorism of Pavlov, Watson, and Skinner...

I don't think it's much of a leap to believe 19th century progressivism introduced by eastern European immigrants and boosted by years of the adjustable democrat party has lead US to what we are dealing with today.

It's all playing out so nicely for the string pullers. No problem staying on their rails at all. Let's not forget, their rails are the only rails that count.
