Scott Brown: I was sexually and physically abused as a kid
Hot Air ^ | February 16, 2011 | ALLAHPUNDIT

People get understandably fatigued by America’s “confessional culture,” but insofar as this encourages abused kids to speak up and aim high, it’s all to the good. It sounds like the molestation took place over a relatively short period of time but the duration of the beatings is less clear. Probably not “relatively short,” though:

Brown told also Stahl that he endured brutal physical abuse by more than one stepfather and even considered purchasing a Wakefield home where he’d been battered, “just so I could burn it down.”

“I actually called the realtor and went in and took the tour and relived kind of where everything was … to make sure I wasn’t … dreaming. As I left, I said, ‘Man, I wish I had the money. I’d just buy this thing and burn it down,’” Brown said.

He told Stahl that opening up about his tough upbringing, and revealing details that his wife and mother didn’t even know about, was cathartic.

...guess there are 2 kinds of people. There are also those who have something to say and those that just have to say something.

That right there is tag line material.

Senator Kennedy is long dead now. Brown should feel somewhat safer.

Like it or not, confession is good for the soul.

Yeah, I don’t think putting it out there for the whole world is all that soothing.

I just don’t get the “I’ve been through some things” stuff.

Pretty sure we all have but I don’t dwell on them much think of them, if there ever was anything.

I don’t really look back much and what I do reflect on is some pretty good stuff.

His mother seems like a typical female character in a Ben Afleck movie. You know the Massachusetts harpie character from Southie.

“Because the same thing happened to someone you know and care for but you just don’t know it.”

That would make me care about what happened to that person, but not this. Despite what they say, this has nothing to do with that. This sort of thing is to for Brown to get booked on Oprah and sell books, and for activists to justify their existence and journalists to feel important.

And this needed to come out now...because...? I’m trying to understand. (Oh! I get it...Book-selling time!)

I think it’s about running for President and I no longer care for this guy. Just another player. IMO.

Years ago a Mass. hack (now he’s a hack, he used to be a cop) named Jeff Perry was accused of witnessing a 14 year old girl being molested by a cop while Perry was the supervising officer. In another case Perry went to the house of another girl molested by the same cop and lied to the girls parents and said he was there with the cop (he wasn’t) and their daughter was lying. In the last election the same Jeff Perry was endorsed by, you guessed it, SCOTT BROWN! Brown called Perry, “a decent, honorable man”.

A public servant who comes forward with a (quite obviously) sincere and painful story of their abuse at the hands of a sexual predator deserves our compassion, not our scorn.

He deserves to have his judgement questioned. Why does he feel the need to tell the world?

I would say, that is Sen. Brown’s decision alone to make. Abuse such as he suffered leaves deep emotional scars, including a misplaced sense of guilt. For many victims, speaking openly about what happened to them is cathartic, even if it sometimes makes others uncomfortable.

F this is true, imagine putting your burden onto your mother and wife.

Weak, selfish loser.

That is an amazingly ignorant statement, stunningly so.

You have no idea of how many people around you have suffered sexual abuse. It is far more common than you think and colors the lives of the sufferers forever. Those close to him deserve to know the truth, so that they can better understand him.

It may be cathartic for him but very selfish. He could have talked about it to his wife or his therapist. Going on television and naming his step fathers clearly damages his mother and her judgement. Maybe he wants to hurt his mother. If so, he’s doing a good job.

“For many victims, speaking openly about what happened to them is cathartic, even if it sometimes makes others uncomfortable.”

What a crock. The public does not exist to assuage him. We are busy with our own lives. He can pay a therapist to listen to his carthases.

Public confessions are narcissistic.
