People get understandably fatigued by Americas confessional culture, but insofar as this encourages abused kids to speak up and aim high, its all to the good. It sounds like the molestation took place over a relatively short period of time but the duration of the beatings is less clear. Probably not relatively short, though:
Brown told also Stahl that he endured brutal physical abuse by more than one stepfather and even considered purchasing a Wakefield home where hed been battered, just so I could burn it down.
I actually called the realtor and went in and took the tour and relived kind of where everything was to make sure I wasnt dreaming. As I left, I said, Man, I wish I had the money. Id just buy this thing and burn it down, Brown said.
He told Stahl that opening up about his tough upbringing, and revealing details that his wife and mother didnt even know about, was cathartic.

That is a sick comment. No one enjoys sexual abuse.
After this Senate term is up, Scott should have lots of time to reflect upon his childhood.
Too much information....This is stuff I don’t want to know. He should work this out privately with his wife, pastor, shrink, what have you
Well thanks for sharing that dipstick, too bad. God Almighty I’m sick of this culture of crying we have in America, toughen up dude and keep your dirty linen to yourself.
Hugh Heffner, imho, has a lot to do with this SEX crap and abuse. Playboy was/is nothing but PORNO. Disgusting.
PARENTS.....STAY MARRIED...PERIOD!
Divorced mothers and never-married mothers often expose their children to grave danger from the men they bring into their children’s lives.
AMEN!!! Not having BOTH PARENTS in the home raising their children is a VERY BAD THING!
” who had some pervert expose himself to her;”
As my old friend, actress Amy Madigan, once told me, “A weenie waver!”
There is an ample amount of ugliness on those threads.
What a sick thing to say.
I am saddened that such things happened to him.........what I cannot understand is why he would put military dependent children at greater risk to things similar by voting to repeal DADT.
Exactly right. It could be argued that the most important responsibility of a parent is to protect his/her child/children.
Sometimes that may mean the loss of a social life.
Correct. Also, young military men and women. Think of how young people are when they first enlist.
I think I know what to expect on certain threads but I’m really surprised at some of the nasty comments on this thread. OK. The guy didn’t turn out to be as conservative as many of us would have wanted. But have some perspective—being disappointed on his votes is no reason to claim he deserves abuse for voting for DADT or that he enjoyed being sexually assaulted. Some posters have absolutely no sense of perspective. This is just as bad as a lot of DU threads.
I honestly think some people here have gone around the bend. A public servant who comes forward with a (quite obviously) sincere and painful story of their abuse at the hands of a sexual predator deserves our compassion, not our scorn.
