On Friday, July 10th, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin signed House Joint Resolution 27 (HJR27), sponsored by State Rep. Mike Kelly. The resolution claims sovereignty for the state under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.
The House passed the resolution by a vote of 37-0 (3 not voting) and the Senate passed it by a vote of 40-0.
Six other states have had both houses of their legislature pass similar resolutions - Tennessee, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Louisiana - Alaska joins Tennessee as the second to have such a resolution signed by the Governor.
A GROWING MOVEMENT
Passage of this resolution appears to be part of what is now a growing state-level resistance to the federal government on various levels. Similar 10th Amendment resolutions have been introduced in 37 states around the country, and various states are considering single-issue legislation in direct contravention to federal laws.

Way to go Gov.!!!!!!!!!!
Could someone please tell me what this is to accomplish.... in English.
(pretend you are trying to explain molecular physics Ernest T. Bass)
Because the Judicial process in your country has become politicized, and so laws that loudly repeat and reassert the Constitution have become vital.

Better formatted, d'oh
Does this mean they are going to start drilling in ANWR soon?
Come on, tell the rest of the story. That’s the day she turns over the job to the Lt. Governor. The press no doubt wants to file “quitter” stories that day. And since she announced her resignation, there have been still more ethics charges filed against her. They all are so scared of her.
I’m still keeping my “I’m voting for Sarah” bumper sticker on my P/U, hoping it will still be good in three years.
The 3 branches of our government ignore the Constitution at will. While the right may be theirs without passage of these laws, the legislators are signaling to the Federal Government that they *might* not be willing to go along with the abuses any longer. Also, I suspect a number of private citzens have no idea such rights exist and would believe the Federal Government can do whatever it wants. These “new” laws serve as education to this individuals.
Plus it’s just feel good politics that earn them kudos from the voters without a cost.
I’m waiting to see these states make good and back up the talk.
nice job sarah
I have to agree with Just Lori on this one. The resolution is entirely symbolic. If there’s anything that’s shown to violate Amendment X, there are already quite adequate safeguards in the Constitution — all any state would need to do would be sue the federal government, something that can be done with or without this resolution. Contrariwise, the resolution cannot grant the state any rights it does not already have.
Excellent, Governor Palin.
Sarah Palin is a quality woman. I love her “No Fear” attitude.
Good Job Sarah! And good job, Governor Bredeson of Tennessee. He's a "D" but he is decidedly much better than the vast majority in his party. He actually has been a pretty good governor.
and the heavy breather anny (news reader am I)from the today show had a sympthetic interview with the bottom feeder that is the father of Sarah’s grandson.
Grizzlies are wussies compared to Alaskan brown bears or Kodiaks. Much LARGER!
Sarah on a Kodiak swinging a cavalry saber would make a good motto poster.
And I agree with you 100%.
In an ideal world, no. But they may have to in court some day so this is a very good document to have on official record.
Bravo!
You aren’t missing anything....it’s the federal governmnet that needs reminding.
Where's Virginia? We're turning blue over here. Help!
