.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Lucy looks like a very sweet dog!
Billie makes the best graphics! All those cute pups look perfect in that pic.
Actually Billie deserves credit for the posting of that darling poem because she suggested it would be a nice addition to this thread.
I merely followed her suggestion.

I saved this poem about lady Liberty but unfortunately do not know the author:
THE LADY
I wonder what she thought
As she stood there, strong and tall.
She couldn't turn away,
She was forced to watch it all.
Did she long to offer comfort
As her country bled?
With her arm forever frozen
High above her head.
She could not shield her eyes
She could not hide her face
She just stared across the water
Keeping Freedom's place.
The smell of smoke and terror
Somehow reduced her size
So small within the harbor
But still we recognized...
How dignified and beautiful
On a day so many died
I wonder what she thought,
And I know she must have cried.

LadyX found a lovely site at the Finest this evening. Here is one pic from that site called the Spirit of Halloween.
The Alaskan Natives believes the aurora brings the spirit of their ancestors back to the earth to see how their descendents are doing.

There is Peace
There is peace in the turmoil
And strength for the road
He won't leave me friendless
To carry this heavy load
There are birds ever winging
To places far away
And as He guides their journey
He's prepared the place they'll stay
There is calm across the waters
That were raging without form
And when He spoke it into being
The land around was formed
The earth gives up it's fullness
And provides my daily bread
It gives me strength to walk along the path
He's fashioned as I'm lead
There is comfort on the rough roads
Where I struggle hard to cross
But His hand is firmly in my own
So I'm never really lost
There is laughter in the magic
Of this love He gives to me
To lighten up my spirit
Giving true tranquillity
There is peace in every moment
If I only look to see
He's the solution to every problem
And forever one with me

There is a dark side also...
Awake! Awake! Perchance to write,
Let page and pen warn of the night,
When things that creep do oft take flight,
Their faces shun the days cruel light...

3 guesses what I'm doing today??? See y'all later, and maybe have my own poem to share about the gathering of wierd relatives.
The Family Reunion
by Shaara
We brush off our blue jeans and pile in the car Time for our gathering, and weve gotta drive far. Oversized families are great; so I'm told, But the people who say that are usually old. They dont have to sit in the back seat with Ted, While he makes faces at cars, pretending hes dead. (Yes, I wish it, at times, when his legs always kick, Or when he starts reading, and always gets carsick.) Some say a reunion's exciting for all, Those who've never sat close to a Neanderthal! My parents are the worst on the long drive to Butte. They sing all those songs my mom thinks are cute. My dad likes to test me on facts and unknowns, And never stops quizzing despite all my moans. Then when we get there, my ears and brain numb, I get to meet cousins: all the Toms, Janes and dumbs. And together were supposed to go off and chatter As if being blood-related is all that mattered. So Im stuck in the country with nothing to do But talk with my cousins who belong in a zoo. Last year "Dear Cousin Tom" dripped ice cream All over my outfit in a chocolately stream. Tanya tripped over my foot, then bawled when she fell. Uncle Herbie made us stand in a line and spell. Aunt Harriett will probably make her jello with peas, While Cousin James does nothing but snort and sneeze. Funs not what I call my family's reunions As we listen to Grandma talk about bunions, And someone will say, like they do every year, How big you are getting, as they spit in my ear. Sammie, my friend, doesnt have any cousin. Id be so happy to give her a dozen! And when I grow up and dont have to go Ill threaten my kids with the whole sad show. Didnt do your homework? Ill say with a glare, And theyll return to their rooms just to avoid the affair!

A blessed good morning to you Meekie. Thank Caveman Carl for me. This place needs lots of coffee.
Last week the weather bureau forecast some showers this week-end but it did not happen. It's still warm during the day but it cooled off to 59 early this morning. I think the forcast for today is 88.
